Should be "installation strike", which targets rocket test pads, RADAR and nuclear reactors. At least, it's supposed to; I've never reached a point in game where there was any point in bombing a nuclear reactor in the first place.

You are right. Once a reactor is built, the person building it benefits from the practicals in terms of boosting research speed.

Actual bomb production comes from the bomb making techs.

Don't waste time or thought on bombing reactors. If you see one, just be prepared to wrap the war up sooner rather than later.

There is one tiny, possible reason to take note of the location of an enemy nuclear reactor, but it has nothing to do with impacting his ability to research or produce nukes. The AI seems to put a higher priority on defending, and if necessary retaking, provinces they own which have special installations in them like reactors or rocket test sites. So such sites can be viewed as pocket magnets, which is to say you can expect the AI to focus more units defending them and thus they make good targets for you to encircle in order to catch bigger clumps of units to be cut off and destroyed in situ. I am not 100% sure this is true, not being well versed in decyphering lua files, but that seems to be the tendency based on my own anecdotal experiences. But this is a relatively minor point, all things considered, since the AI is already pretty easy to outmaneuver, making such tricks a teensy bit less than necessary.

sorry to bump this thread, but does anyone know why installation strikes on nuclear reactors don't work? I am in a MP game, Britain (Me) versus two Axis players, one of them being Italy, the other germany. The italian player as used his custom start to fast track to reactors. I have pummelled all of his IC and AA guns with strat bombers, and have tried to do installation strikes to slow down his research of the speed at which he can gain the actual nuclear bomb. But it seems Installation strikes are quite worthless, since although the description says they target reactors, i have not damaged it at all after flying many sorties against it. Is this a bug or somthing? or is possibile to change somthing in the save file? since im beginning to think there may be foul play, since i timed out, and asked the Italian player to save the game and send it to me. (Can you increase the health of reactors in the save file, so they never lose health?) Otherwise its probably a bug then?

First off, thread necromancy is a no-no around here, but I suppose a mod will come along and deal with that shortly. As to your other question, I would guess that it is working but you lack the intel to accurately see the enemy province stats. In any case, as Secret Master already pointed out above, there is absolutely no purpose in even trying to damage enemy nuclear facilities. It accomplishes nothing. The only effect of such facilities is the practicals you gain from building them; having them yields nothing whatsoever.
