Playing here too, Bolt, as Japan. All is well so far, except for some reason the "Poland Joins the Allies" event failed to fire for me. I only noticed it a few months later, and checked the logs. It wasn't merely that England picked the B option, it never happened at all.

I just used the manual event cheat to enact it, so all is well. Since no one else has reported this, I suspect it was a one-time fluke.

Ive been playing the mod but its very unusual.

troop counts are low. I hadent built any units as germany and just done research.. france was at 46 at start of war and russia at 43. This was in 1940. I had about 20 expeditionary divisions tho so I got lucky. Also britan didnt choose to get poland in allies.

All these problems may be because I installed your mod onto the fresh 1.0 game I had just installed and then patched... mabey.

Well done, Bolt!

Playing Germany, by the end of 1937, I have my South American Empire (Venezuela, Colombia & Ecuador) but it's been attacked several times by Aussies and Kiwis. Wish I could more effectively use subs to protect my sealanes.

I rolled over Poland but Belgium and France are tough.

No crashes, bugs or other problems so far, other than those inherent in the AI.

Thanks.

Polish Guarantee event will not happen, and is not supposed to happen, if the Germans do not accept the Munich Agreement, and then violate it by occupying the rest of Czecholslovakia.

Kamiman, your problem is more then likely the slider bug. Make sure you never set any of your sliders to zero. In other words, always be producing something, anything.

Essentially, the AI ties its production to yours, so if you make no units, they don't either. There is quite a bit of leeway to this, though, just make sure you never set produciton to zero, and the game will play far better. (this is a bug in the games AI which we cannot fix)

Bolt, according to my log files, I had about 150 downloads of my mod for your mod, I'd Imagine your doing way, way better then that :)

If your hosting has webalizer or some sort of traffic tracking software then you can take a look on how many requests your files received. Check that. May be usefull.

Btw, your files are mirrored at roadtowar.com. There's a counter there to see how many got it from the site (plus a commenting system and a "rate it from your site" cut and paste codes, if you want to use it).

Thx again for a great mod.

Hot d**n! Going to try and see how many transports it uses and add it to my "should be in the FAQ" list.

EDIT: Tried this and couldn't send anything to Slovakia or other allies. In the German game, only coastal provinces were convoy sources. In USSR game, I could send from inland provinces, but only to certain other inland provinces or to coastal provinces.

Bolt, is there a trick to this? It would really help the Slovakia problem and allow overland supply support to other allies.

Thanks

Thanks.

Actually guys, while I won't reject praise (as that would be dumb), I'm really more interested in descriptions of the flow of the game, generally, good and bad things, etc. So I can get a handle on future changes (assuming there will be a future edition of Bolted HoI).

I'd like the next steps in Bolted HoI to continue the tweaking and event adding, as well as do-it-ourselves bugfixes, and some enhancements like counters and so forth (looking at several candidates now).

But, the main change I'd like to make for 1.0Xx is

Specialized scenarios :

Bolts of War for Multiplayer (balanced)
Bolts of War for Allied (some production and tech supports for AI Axis countries)
Bolts of War for Axis (some production, unit, tech biases for allied AI).

That way, I can really superpower the AI for one faction or another, and not worry about upsetting the balance for multiplayer.

Still, I do need the practical input on game flow from peeps, and any other bright ideas.

Well I can now report what everyone already knows, that Bolted HOI is a completely different game than what came out of the box; and a far superior game at that. When you start analyzing the individual elements of HOI, Paradox got so much of it right. However, the game still didn't "feel" right. It didn't PLAY right. The significant increase in divisions is initially intimidating, but it is right. Things flow much better. The war feels more real and players have significantly more strategic options, opportunities, and challenges. The Russian Front actually becomes THE Russian Front.

Bolted HOI is SO much more than just that though. It is attention to almost every detail within the game. Little tech tree problems are fixed. Units and provinces are fine tuned. The events help steer the world in historically believable ways. Plus the inclusion of other carefully selected mods such as the counter colors and the (shameless plug) leader tags wraps the "best of the rest" from the community up with all of these enhancements to form a single package that gives gamers a "one stop" solution for making HOI into the game we thought we were buying when we read the blurbs on the box.

Amazing is too nondescript a word to characterize what you have achieved here Bolt. All I can say is that anyone who has been sitting on the fence trying to decide if they really want to fool with a mod or just wait for the "official" patches to fix X, Y and Z should immediately download and install Bolted HOI. After only 1 day you'll wonder why it was ever a decision at all. Once you've seen the end result, it really is a no brainer.

The only issues I have seen is that:

(1) much of the documentation still refers to 1.02a (even though this is the 1.02b release),
(2) I applied JSobieski's counter mods (except that in order to make them easier on my eyes I edited them to further shrink the cruiser silhouette and to move the bottom aircraft symbol to the center of the counter away from the size indicator). The size "flag" really is especially useful in Bolted HOI due to the large number of stacked armies. The aircraft designation at the bottom is also nice for fast recognition.
(3) I had to replace the included German flag with the historical one (that is omitted from Bolted HOI for obvious reasons) that I prefer.
(4) One Italian aircraft on loan to Germany just flew non-stop back and forth between bases in Italy and Russia. This was an AI oddity beyond the control of Bolted, but it was rather amusing none-the-less.

Obviously none of those are game play issues in Bolted and none are particularly significant. All I can say is GREAT JOB!

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF ABOVE POST:

Bolted HOI = VERY VERY Good! Download and install it!

I'm too deep in a bolted game. SU and I are exchanging blows. So far I'm very happy with the result.

Bolt, do you think you will work on a 39' scen? As of now the 36' one is too easy (until patch 1.05 or so I suppose :) ).

Thank again for your great work.

Since I did not mess with the text.csv file, I'm told by Betazoids that it should work with the European / Scandi version of HoI and Windows.

when you extract the file, make sure that the extraction directory is set to your Hearts of Iron directory. Let me know how it goes. There was a slight error which existed in the 1.02b file for about 10 minutes (It was quickly replaced on the site) that *may have made it a problem for non-English version of Windows.

Yes I have thought about working on a 1939 scenario . . . and I might yet do that.

I haven't checked out what Fed has done with it in his "Total War" mod for that scenario - I'm told its good . . . but if I do do something there it will be, as usual, de-linked so that its compatible with as much as possible and doesn't overwrite default and normal scenarios.
