EZ Installer 1.01b major problem

The 1.01b EZ Installer backs up _every_ HOI file when you run it, not just the ones changed by Bolt. It was really thrashing a long time doing the install and when it was done I noticed every freakin' HOI file now has a .old extension on it. Back to the drawing board please! :)

:gasps in shock:

Thats alot of files.

Verbal, you might want to change the EZ installer. However, I know you made it to work with any mod.

Its your baby.

As long as HoI is installed to default locations, it should unzip fine.

If its not installed to a default location, you can use the path display in WinZip for the frame of reference to the directories and just extract manually.

Feedback on Bolted 1.01b....well ok a slightly edited version (reduced speed of armor, ships and aircraft)
Im currently playing Germany in very hard/furious and the time is july 1940. Took France without major problems but until now i have seen 5 Landings in northern France!!
2 by Belgium, 1 by Holland, 1 by Venezuela and 1 by France.
This is as much as I have seen in somthing like 10 games combined.
Im impressed.

After fresh install Bolted 101b did not crash. Ran as minor hands off thru 1946.

Ger whipped Fra in 1939, never invaded Rus. Rus invaded Rom, Hun and Slo and for 3.5 years there was an un ending battle in Slovakia.
Japan did not take the Dutch colonies even though they declared war. (Interesting that Ger never took the Net).
Ger never invaded or annexed Pol even after Ribbentropp historical agreement.
In 1945 there were a few "raids" into Fra and Bel by a few US or UK units. Never coordinated and were easily defeated.
No Jap US confrontations in the Pacific.
UK made very small advance in North Africa but barely out of Egy.

All in all I think the AI is a little more aggressive but still lacking.

I will try next to play as major but US/UK cannot be left to the AI.

Just thought I'd let you know...

I Used the EZ Installer for 1.01b and it installed correctly even if my installation is not in the default location. It is on drive C but not in the original directories... I verified and all the files have been copied to .old extentions and when I loaded the game the 36-48 Bolted scenario was available, Canada had the transports doctrine researched and the time frame of events looked more realistic... War started in March 1939... Any other way I can make sure that the mod is correctly installed...

Again many "Tanks" and good job... :)

Yes that is the problem. Every single HOI file is copied. It should not do that.

I agree. The total file size replacement for Bolted HoI is only 1.3 MB. And that includes the optional Bolted Start Screen which accounts for 1 MB of that.

However, Verbal is the author of that and his purpose was to allow for this program to be a "mod controller" (I think). So until he gets involved in the discussion with this there's nothing I can say / do.

The zip should work fine though.

Understood that it is up to verbal to fix EZ Installer. However I don't have HOI in the default path so if I use straight Bolted 1.01b then I have to manually move the files into the right directories. Not a big deal, just more work. BTW there should be a way for you to set up your version of the 1.01b zip so the top directory is the main HOI directory. Then it would install from there on down reagardless of any directories above HOI.

I find it very easy to use Windows Explorer to make a backup copy of HoI (minus the graphics files and a few others) for small 4 Meg backup.

Then I just unzip Bolted to a directory where I keep patches and with a simple copy make it live.

Works beautifully, there is really no need for an installer for anyone that can do basic file management (that should cover virtually everyone willing to mod their game).

Any idea what a normal rate of CTDs is? Sometimes HoI seems to crash a lot (once every five minutes) but other times it'll run for hours without a single glitch. On average I'd say I get one CTD per three hours (with music off and NVidia 40.72 drivers).

Bolted HoI 1.02a is now "in the works" and should be released in 48 hours.

Bolted HoI 1.02a now uses a totally new scenario structure, making it compatible with all versions of the game and ALL OTHER MODS. File names and references are changed so that Bolted HoI will use only its own files for its own scenario; you can play all other normal scenarios without automatically having to use Bolted files, and you can now apply other mods without losing the Bolted changes.

The Bolted AI files will also be available in an optional separate package for those wishing to apply Bolted AI files to all the other scenarios and mods.

The new structure does include the Bolted AI files with a _bolted extension so that the new The Bolts Of War (1936-1947) scenario will use these files automatically -- you don't need to have the separate optional Bolted AI files. The Separate Optional Bolted AI files are only for people who want to apply Bolted AI changes to all the other scenarios as well (and, really, it would be just a simple matter of renaming what you get with the 1.02a package).

It can be if you want it that way.

The mod as structured will use _bolted.inc files for the 1936 scenario. These .inc files will refer to special bolted AI files such as german_bolted.ai.

So, aside from province changes and unit changes (which are relatively minimal) the Bolted 1936 scenario will stand alone. If you play the other scenarios you will revert to using normal HoI.

However, if you simply rename the bolted ai files from, for example, germany_bolted.ai to germany.ai, whatever normal scenario you use will now use the bolted files.

I will, as I said, include a special optional package that want to apply the Bolted ai files to ALL scenarios, which will also be easy to install.
