Why is Båhuslen called Bohuslën when it is Norwegian (or Danish)? Is it just something Paradox have forgot about? I know about dynamic province names.

Similar faults are the name Shetland, when it should be Hjaltland.
Orkney = Orkneyjar

And the capitals

Kirkwick = Kirkjuvagr
Lerwick = Leirvik

Same reason Sweden starts with cores on a bunch of Danish provinces. According to Paradox, everywhere in the present-day boundaries of Sweden + Finland has been rightfully Swedish since time immemorial

Reval should be Talinn if controlled by Estonia itself. (Reval is the German name)
Most Germanic provinces are not translated in their English names if conquered by non-Germanic nations.
Steiermark = Styria
Wien = Vienna
Köln = Cologne
München = Munich
Kärnten = Carinthia etc

Not all provinces have dynamic province names. Feel free to use the suggestions forum to suggest more of them and they may be added (especially in a case such as this when a country starts with a province but it's named in the language of a future conqueror)

There are over 3000 provinces in the game and quite a lot of cultures so when some provinces lacks dynamic province names for some cultures, even if they make sense and seem obvious, It's likely more related to us not having thought of it rather than a conscious decision

Just remember that Germans pronounces "W" as English pronounces "V" so Wien and Vienna are a lot closer in pronunciation than it initially appears.

Secondly, name "Talyna" (probably from "Taani linn", i.e. "Danish city") first appeared only in 1536, and has ever only referred to the city, whereas Reval comes from Rävala, which was ancient Estonian "county" roughly corresponding to province of Reval in-game.

The first point is a bit nitpicky since it was a simple mistyping.
Yes it refers to the city itself, like most counties in the HRE do too. If they shouldn't refer to the city a lot provinces in the HRE would need a renaming too, since there are existing province names for a lot of them too. + if Paradox don't want to call it after the city, why is the lithuanian dynamic province name Talinas?
If the first mentioning of this name was in 1536, it would be fitting for this game.
Can't recall the names but there should be different danish, swedish and russian names for this city too. I guess you might know them, since you got the estonian flag in your profile.

The Lerwick/Leirvik thing is academic anyway seeing as Scalloway (or whatever it was in Norn [the local Scandinavian language]) was the capital of Shetland/Hjaltland until 1708 anyway.

English often shows an irrational preference for French placenames (sometimes also Italian ones). For instance Aachen used to be known as Aix-la-Chapelle in English (even though it's unnecessarily long) and Ieper is known even today as Ypres (even though Ieper is actually easier for English speakers to pronounce).

Another naming anomaly is Montenegro. Why in the 21st century is most of the world still using the *Venetian* name for a Slavic country?

Most of Europe uses a Venetian name for Crna Gora for the same reason that the English call Deutschland Germany and Cymru Wales while the Poles call Italia Włochy.

Somehow, I've been under impression that they name provinces after cities not by preference but by necessity. Then again, maybe they are just not very consistent there.

Anyway - Estonia existing and blobbing around the Baltic in 1600s just feels wrong (which is why I've never even played them once in 900 game hours), but I suppose in such alt-history "Tallinn" wouldn't be wrong either. And I agree it is sort of weird if it is localized as such for Lithuania but not for Estonia.

Germany has a whole bunch of different names across Europe though, whereas with Montenegro, there has been widespread agreement on the Venetian name with almost no variation in spelling. That's what I find weird - it's not even mutated or been assimilated into local language patterns.
