Well in that case, wouldn't the victim's family simply choose to do nothing? Nothing's rather easy to do, after all... : /
As it's been said, yes. This was common during the time period. However, it should only be allowed against vassals who kill a landed noble, or family member within your realm.
Nothing I've read supports the idea of free extra-judicial killing as punishment for murder. When I asked for sources I was interested in maybe a book that discusses in depth the subject. I presume you've read something of that nature?
Besides, no character in-game commits murder. People are murdered 'on the orders of....'
What do you think the "feud" in Feudalism is for?
I agree as well. I think executing, without penalty, should be an option. Not just for murderers but, anyone who commits an act of "treason". It would depend on your play style of course. You could still banish or leave imprisoned etc. This may not be the thread for this but I was thinking that the plots could be expanded to include something along the lines of "fabricate charges of treason" giving you lawful imprisonment. This might be a way for a King to get rid of an unruly vassal or even his infertile wife. (Henry VIII style)
Also, perhaps a burning option for heretics. This would depend on your realms religion. Could come with some positive and negative relations hits as well as possible traits. Just a thought.
I second this. Executions and banishment are useless right now. Executing someone give 20 penalty which is already big- and antagonize heir of executed. So I'm only changing enemy for worse relations. Banishment is useless entirely- 120 penalty for duke means that for banishing him I'll be dethroned in days. If someone breaks the law, he should be arrested or executed without penalty. Or both.
Personally, I'd like to execute them, cook them in a pie, and then serve it to their relatives. That's how I roll.
Why wouldn't your court get annoyed over you executing other Courtiers? Sure you might think they deserve it, but everyone else is more worried that they might be next.
I usually just stick them in the dungeon for the rest of their lives and await the inevitable torture events.
Best one so far: pregnant second wife murdered my five year-old son and heir, I imprisoned her, second wife gave birth to a daughter who I released from prison, six years later my character and his daughter tortured the second wife to death.....
Wait, wut?
This is a thing?
Yes. There's an occasional event where, if you have prisoners in the dungeon and children in your court, your children will experiment with torture. If you have the right traits, you can join in.
