France to Resolve Spanish Civil War, peacekeepers sent to Spain

Yeah right peacekeepers... sneaky :D

Spetember 12th, 1901.

More good news from the foriegn ministry. While Italy s whaling on Austria, they have the good sense to ask us to leave them alone. Kaiser Friedrich and Chancellor Max are all too happy to comply, as this means their southern flank is safe-for now.

Many of the Dutch Bandits have fled to Belgium, where they have proceeded to destablize the already fragile provisional leadership. Germany will be intervening there.

Pro-German elements in Denmark are demanding German protection, and the Kaiser thinks that this is probably some kind of excuse, but its better that Denmark becomes German than anyone else.

The Qing dynasty has collapsed in China, Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek are trying to build a new government, but are having problems with a large number of warlords.

Chancellor Max!

The Defense Minister seemed really happy or pleased about something--but he didn't make any attempt to hide it.

You'll be pleased to hear that I've got our Army back in Order! We are back to full strength with our armed forces!

Foriegn Minister Weiss was a bit more even tempered about the situation, pointing out that while Germany was back to full strength, the Ottoman Empire had reversed an entire century of decline within just one short year, and that with the French success at the Canterbury Landings, London was now in French hands.

Nonetheless, the war drive against the French will continue. The Brits and the Frogs are clearly at war, and the Italians and the Dual Monarchy are at war, and the Russians and the Ottomans as well. That leaves--Us--to grab stuff for our own advantage.

September 21st, 1902.

Blue Max didn't sign up to be a economics teacher. He was the German Chancellor, not some kind of number cruncher. Dealing with math, was for the rank and file, the dreamers and the visionaries had to determine which path for them to follow.

Despite some problems with import taxes, The Chancellory had a very successful situation on their hands. A secret alliance had been signed with the British, who were enranged that their capitol could have fallen to the French. Meanwhile, Von Moltke and Von Tirpitz had mobilized along the Belgian Protectorate and were prepared to finish off the warmonger Prime Minster Benet, and drive out his peacekeepers out of Spain and Portugal. A new order would be made.

The army moves, as planned for the Dijon Offensive and the "1870 Campaign, as Von Moltke styled it, are presented in the photograph.

I need more money, more troops, and more time!

It's been two years, Von Bonn. Do you admit failure?

Without the men I need, the money, the resources- I will fail.

-KABLAMM!

Von Bonn has been shot clean throught the forehead. The last thing that went through his mind, besides the bullet, was the hope that someday he be the king of Germany, as this man, a liason for the Silver Thorn had promised he would be.

Two local youths would stumble on the body, and send it to the Germany Embassy. By this point, it was clear to this covert liason and the SIlver Thorn itself, that this takeover would not be total, quick or easy. But Von Bonn had admitted failure, and the Silver Thorn NEVER ADMITS FAILURE.

Chapter 2: British Perfidy

February 14th, 1903

The British, having reclaimed their capitol from the French, have decided to back out their alliance with the Germans. This unamusing detail, in spite of the British own inability to defend their capitol, has left Germany isolated.

Chancellor Max and Def. Min. Von Moltke had met for lunch in the Berlin Ratskellar. Although the first 10 minutes of the conversation was untirely unimportant, what follows can only be described as a turning point in Germany's own actions.

Frankly, Herr Chancellor, The British are in rotten shape millitarily, and yet they have unilaterially back out of fighting the French, who sacked their capitol! You've read the same intelligence reports as myself, this means they've decided to fight someone else instead.

There is only one "Else" they can attack, and that is us.

What about the appearances in the eyes of the world? Surely Britian would never do such a thing!

You have, Herr Chancellor, badly overestimated one's loyalties to their friends in our age. Von Tirpitz thinks the British are smarting over the French Campaign, and we should be able to secure ourselves for good.

That's great Von Moltke--still, it feels bad to stab our friends...

Anyone who would desert you when fighting THEIR enemies is not a friend. They are cowards, and they do not deserve friends.

I'll have to dress up the reasons for war though.

Von Moltke smiled--might I arrange a little incident for you?

That would be appriciated. 8)

Two weeks later, the HMS Coventry collided with a small German Fishing trawler. While no one was hurt, the accident was clearly the fault of the British, who denied responsibility. A few rounds of embellishment and yellow journalism would spin this into a vicious attack on German Merchant shipping, and grounds for war by the German Chancellory.

General Von Holt was immensely proud of his accomplishments. Despite facing a French army of equal size, he had managed to slip by the French Armee and slip into Paris.

And for his efforts, he was summoned to Berlin, to recieve the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, as well as a promotion to Marshal. While this would have been enough to beat the French for good, the fact that the French Prime Minister Benet had decided to move the Government to Le Havre and continue the war kept this conquest from being a major victory.

Unfortunately, his men would be fighting well past Christmas. But at least they'd have the great prestige of repeating the great feat of 1870.

Meanwhile, in the Chancellory, Blue Max was also quite proud of the actions of the German Army. With the Fall of Paris, and the acquisition of French munitions from the [former] French Capitol, they'd had the resources to expand the German Army. It was now the largest on the contient, as it should have been all along.

The Press was busy as well.

And here's footage of the war situation, look for yourself.

[No picture this time, I played on, but I haven't got another one. Fortunately, that means I'll have time to actually write a decent post instead of rushing to meet the game deadline while posting on the forum].

April 14th, 1905.

Le Havre, France.

Prime Minister Benet was a stocky man, and not exactly modest or straightforward either. And truth be told, he was certainly much more bloodthirsty than his predecessor, Henri Camillie.

It had been five years since he had overthrown Camillie--who now was spearheading a socialist opposition to Benet's Coalition, and Benet had won control of the government by demanding "Military action against these terrorists and their state sponsors".

And initally, it had went well. Civil warfare in Spain, similar problems in Portugal, and now, incursions into Italy, had proven successful.

But what about the Germans?

The answer would have to be a total failure. With Russia and the UK fighting for Scandinavia, most of the German Army was positioned to repeating the feat of 1870. But Benet was no Napeleon III, and he and most of the French government had escaped the fall of Paris.

But what interested him most was a letter he had written to a swiss powerbroker. In that letter, he had explained his position, that the Former Prime Minister Henri Camille Socialists and anti-war factions were planning to take the government back. He asked, and recieved...

a black sheet of paper...

Camille and four socialist deputies had been detained, and thrown into prision, where Benet had given orders to have them murdered. And so, Camillie would be finished off, much like his Socialist friends.

But it was not to be. Alarms were sounded! The Germans had followed up the Paris offensive with one into Le Havre. And Benet his minions would be forced to leave behind their prisioner and flee to Bordeaux.

The Fox had survived, once again.

Frankfurt am Main, German Empire, April 03, 1905

It's very difficult to get a doctorate, thought Walter Ulrike. The topic he'd chosen to write a disseration on was perhaps the most pivotal in recent times--the origins of the "Day of Disaster" and the causes of War. And he'd only begun to write the topic, as huge amounts of research were compiled to support those views.

The problem was, that this history was clearly still being written. For five years, the world in general and Europe in particular had essentially been stuck in chaotic cycles of war and peace, or as Ulrike put it "in a State of Confused Fighting".

This idea had grown on him for years, as his older brother was among the men who fought in Von Holt's army against the French and forced the French Government to flee--twice. While the fighting still raged on, Walter had accumlated a huge amount of press documents, and a few confiscated papers from the French government.

The first page of his disseration had been rewritten several times, and it was the facts behind that disseration that were remaining so elusive.

It was inevitable that the world would face a catastrophic war. With the worlds imperial powers seizing whatever territory they could, there is no more land in the world to be had. Europe's seven great powers, combined with the United States and the Japanese Empire, control most of what is left in the world.

If left to their own causes, this situation would eventually mean war, but this war was provoked prematurely by the events of the 'Day of Disaster', where the leaders of these great powers died.

The deaths of these leaders have litterally anilihated both Metternach's concert of nations and Bismarck's system of alliances. We do not know the cause of these deaths, but at this point, this is irrelevant. The Consequneces are clear:

Most minor European nations have been occupied, annexed by other nations. It may be the case that "Spainish Peacekeepers" and "New Bulgarian Civil authority" were made with better intentions, but Spain and Bulgaria are clearly unequal to their host nations.

It the opinion of the Author that the "Day of Disaster" has initated a third round of imperialism:

In the first age of Imperialism, the New World was discovered, and huge colonies were created. Then they were lost by stupid and ineffective contols.
In the second age of Imperialism, Africa and Asia were colonized by expansionist powers. This phase ended not with the loss of these empires, but with the ending of recognition of these powers.

This third age of Imperialism is one which will be dominated by warfare. Wars have been fought, without end, for five years, and are likely to continue for decades more. A revival of Manifest destiny has led to a repeat war between the USA and Mexico, and there can be little doubt that once again, Mexico will be quickly crushed. In Asia, Protectorates over Manchuria, Taiwan and Korea have made Japan the dominant power. With the collapse of the Qing dynasty, it appears that Japan has turned China it a puppet of its own--the Liao Dynasty can only be a free government in name.

It is too early to predict the winners of this conflict. Already, ultranationalists and communists hover at the fringes of society.

We may never again have peace in our time.

It was a good start, but such conclusions required mountains of evidence. But Walter Ulrike had these mountains at his disposal. As he sipped a cold beer, he began to shuffle through three file cabinets. While he could not understand all of the languages spoken, the giant font of the headings clearly indicated the severity of the content.

This AAR will have to suspended for some time.

I'm sorry for the delay in this, but School and social constrants are cutting into my time.

You have my apologies for being so sluggish to update this AAR, partly I guess I'm simply not as motivated as before (It's turned into a back and forth stalemate.) Realistically, Germany is not out of the woods yet. 8). So there's a story left to tell, when I can.
