Well, with a high-trust, low-development protectorate, according to his suggestion, it would then allow you to get him as a vassal you can feed and annex.I have a hard time seeing why you'd ever allow it.

A protectorate that westernizes breaks away because protectorating requires a certain tech difference.
If you make the rest protectorates + border only with trade companies westernization will be so delayed that it's unlikely it'll ever get far. If you want to permanently block sub-Saharan Africa you'll have to protectorate those guys too and block Morocco from the Tuat event.
Just making a country to protectorate can't block westernization now. Thanks Wiz for derailing my thread
I don't really get that part. Making nations protectorates doesn't really slow down possible westernization, does it? And for trade companies, my issue is that while that stops westernization-by-contact it doesn't stop westernization-by-commingling-cores, right? So for example if I grab some coastal provinces off Vijayanagar, they'll be able to westernize even if all those provinces belong to my trade company right?

Oh I forgot that.@happymix91 They can, as long as the guy who wants to westernize has a core on the TC province.
Can't halt. This westernization by core, it's well enough when you can remove core in a later war, but does that halt an already begun westernization? Strikes me that I've never noticed :s
Also, I so wish I could demand a province AND its core revocation in the same war :\
Ah, yes of course. So if they start to westernize in the truce period the only option becomes total conquest. Can't halt.
Cancel protectorate? Seems a lot easier than waiting 10 years for them to westernize.

Or wait until being able to make client state.. Though you should wait some more and provinces should have a land connection or be rocated at same continent.Well, if I really don't want to core myself, I can wait 10 more years.

That isn't the "only" option. It shouldn't be rocket science to let them DIAF to reactionaries, especially if you're adding a little WE to their westernization unrest.
And did that break the westernization process? If not, I'd still have to conquer the place to prevent it happening at some point.I was at 0 mp for over a decade
