Though I'm aware this isn't the multiplayer section, I thought this was important enough to merit some mention here, seeing as the multiplayer forum is a bit sparsely populated.
Now I know there are already plenty of threads addressing router and connectivity issues and the like, and perhaps this has been mentioned before in another thread, but since the forums don't have a "search" option, I couldn't confirm whether or not this was the case.
Having got that preamble out of the way, it happened that a few days ago some buddies and I were trying to get a game of Vicky going, and three of the potential players were behind routers. Exhausting the usual channels searching for a solution to get all of us working, we came across www.hamachi.cc/download/ . The program listed there... Well, rather than explaining how it works myself, I'll let wikipedia do the talking.

Now, I shouldn't say we came across it. Actually, it was just one of us, the techie among us. So I can understand how some might not understand what all that means. So, to reiterate how he explained it to me in lay terms, the program "tricks" your computer into thinking it is part of a LAN with the other people you create this "virtual network" with, thereby circumventing the incoming/outgoing complications associated with routers and firewalls. Now, it's worked stunningly well for us. So I thought the prudent thing to do would bring it to the attention of the Vicky, HoI2, EU2, etc. forums.
And that's it really. Hope some of you find it helpful.
