So you have to basically kill everyone there?
Every chat with Unbroken or Disfavor seems to end in a fight.

Pretty much. It's a nice shock, after spending the rest of the game being diplomatic and helping everyone out in every other region. Disfavored hate you because you dared to deny them the glory of conquest, and the Ubroken are stubborn in full Stalwart tradition, and it only snowballs after your first unavoidable slaughter.

These are people who, even before Kyros's conquest, were so proud of their unbreakable traditions that they were a joke even among the Tiers. They're the militiamen up in the mountains, listening to AM radio and building fallout bunkers. No matter what your intentions are, they've already made up their mind about you. Don't feel too bad about their loss.

Honestly, for me, that area was one of the most boring playing experience I had in recent years.
Sure, you have reason for it to be all combat? At least make it interesting. Have some environment interactions like setting a trap with boulders, or set a camp on fire. Anything so it won't be so boring and redundant.

It is odd that theres a lack of environmental interactions in the game when the game starts off with one. Right in the first area you get the option to push a boulder which can kill an enemy. There should have been more of that in the game.
