Hello,
During WW2 most at war countries enforced city blackout - i e the night game map should be, mostly, black as soon as a country enters a state a war. E.g. Cities in Switzerland were famous to aircrews for being illuminated (to avoid being mistakenly bombed by belligerents) while neighbouring french and german cities were in the dark.
I'd love that implemented just for cosmetic reasons, but perhaps with some air war effects.

Yeah doesn't make sense to have cities light up during the night if they're at war (or at least, under threat of being bombed). Then again I feel like a minority of players even use the day/night cycle when they play, as it gets a bit annoying, so might not be something worth bothering about.

That's an interesting idea. It wasn't just bombing though. German submarines used lit up cities on the coast to help acquire and hit enemy ships.

Well yeah, a lit up city is an obvious landmark.
