If you choose the Scholarship focus, there's a chance that it will trigger the rare event of building a flying machine prototype. To test the machine, one of the options is to use a local dung gatherer as a test dummy. His name is Meldrick.

He survives the crash and you find out that not only your project was a failure, but there's another inventor who is building his own prototype. Meldrick suggests "a cunning plan". Meldrick's name, profession and the "cunning plan" phrase are references to Baldrick, a dimwit character from the British TV Series "Blackadder", which I recommend everyone to watch, if you haven't already.
