Black Screen On Startup

When I click 'Start CKII' on the game launch menu it goes to a black screen, with no sound. I have had CK2 since 'The Republic' DLC and it worked fine until now.
Any idea what could be causing this? I haven't changed any files except adding mods to the mod folder in the 'My Documents' CK2 folder (I have since deleted the mods think-ing they caused this). I own the game through Steam if that matters.

Just to make it more clear what happens.... I'll click on the desktop icon for CK2, it goes to the game launch menu, I click 'Start CKII', and then it goes to black screen with no sound and seems to freeze my computer (I try Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it does nothing).

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the game and verifying the game cache to no avail.

Make a copy of your CK2 folder in Mydocuments, move it elsewhwere (like desktop) and delete the one in mydocuments. It gets recreated when you start the game, but on default values.
So if that works, move your saves, mods, message settings and settings.txt (if changed) back in there from the copy.
Might be mods confused some logs and cause start errors. Might be. I believe the uninstall process leaves the mydocuments folder alone, so you will need to delete it yourself manualy.
Just a suggestion. Will though maybe be some other reason i'm afraid.

I tried what you suggested and it may or may not of affected it. It still went to a black screen with no sound but after waiting 5-10 minutes it went to the loading screen of the game and the game worked. The thing that is weird about it is when I quit the game it went to the same black screen with no sound and within 5-10 minutes my desktop appeared.... I tried playing the game multiple times and this still happens. The game does seem to be working now but this weird black screen thing is still really inconvenient and I have no idea what is causing it.

I have other games through Steam and they work fine so I don't think its being caused by Steam.

please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

Your video driver is very old by win8 standards, try the latest http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_win8-64.aspx

Secondly DirectX does not know about your monitor

I'm using a TV screen as a monitor.

I don't understand your last sentence.

Click on Start - control panel - adjust screen resolution. In the Display drop-list, which is shown there? Basically it needs to know your TV's characteristics. If it still says "generic" in there click on Detect and see if it finds it.

Do you have a normal PC monitor to try instead? Some TVs can't cope with refresh rates that PCs put out.

It just shows Generic Non-PnP Monitor and when I click Detect the screen flashes and nothing else.

I don't have a normal PC monitor to use at the moment.

What nature of connection do you use between your PC and TV? A standard VGA cable, a video cable, or HDMI? Whichever it is, can you try another? HDMI is probably best.

A VGA cable.

I don't think it is the TV screen causing this because when I play demanding games like Shogun 2 it doesn't do this, only CK2 does.

Well, I think it is. Not because the game is more visually demanding, just pickier perhaps. Can you even borrow a monitor from someone and try it, just as a test?
