I have a freshly installed VV 2.2 with updated drivers and the C++ patch, opened with administrator privileges and with XP compatibility. The game freezes on the country selection pane and then goes dark, and I have to reboot the computer to get any response. After this error the program won't start at all.

Here is the text from the error log:

Clausewitz Error[texturehandler.cpp:107]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx\\test\\menu_tiles_line.tga.
Clausewitz Error[texturehandler.cpp:107]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx\\test\\menu_tiles_2.tga.

Did this only happen with 2.2, it was Ok before?

Please post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that as you use Vista and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista to a non-system directory, like c:\users\[name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

No, I had the same problem a few weeks ago with 2.1 and gave up for a while out of frustration.

I've pasted the system log below, but I forgot to save the settings file and now I can't find it. I've looked on the c: drive in the appdata/virtualstore/Program folder but couldn't find Paradox listed there. A search also didn't turn up anything. I'm not sure how to go about installing the game in a Game folder, since it doesn't list that as one of the options when I install the program.

You are loading a mod, I can only help with vanilla, sorry. I suggest a complete re-install outside the system path: First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall both games, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome - choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Then install VV from Gamers Gate over Rome (ie in the same directory), then apply the 2.2 patch over that same directory.
