Black screen and no hint text

Hi all,

Several days before I post a thread stating this problem in this thread, but it magically disappeared so I enjoyed a good amount of great gaming experience. However, the problem persists and again after exhausting all the options I can think of I have to ask for help.

Please see the following 2 screenshots(The first one has steam overlay enabled because I can't take screenshots of the black title screen without showing it):

The game version displayed in both the main title screen and the launcher is 1.4.1(1759).
I'm on Win10(64 bit) with GTX1070, i7 6700, 16GB desktop.
I have done the verify integrity, delete settings file, reinstall game, reinstall components in CommonRedist. Following @AndrewT advice, I also installed several drivers from October to December, all of them and the most updated one do not fix the problem for me.

I also messed with the Nvidia 3D settings a bit, I find that if I change the VSYNC option to other than "Use the 3D application setting",(ie. if I set it to force on or force off) I can get into the main title just fine, but without music and the game feels less responsive.Perhaps I can live with lack of responsiveness but I just can't play my game without music or my attentive tutorial robot's smooth voice.

In the launcher, what have you got your screen settings set to? Windowed fullscreen? if not, then try that, if so then try fullscreen mode. If that doesn't work try windowed mode. If that doesn't work try a lower screen resolution.

See if any of that changes anything.

I still think it's a hardware issue; we're only seen this on nVidia 1070s, nothing else.

Hi dskod, only full screen works for me. Windowed or fullscreen windowed will not show anything at all. Lower resolution produces the same result.

When my games was working fine, all the display modes work fine as well. When it's problematic, only fullscreen semi-works, other modes just produce a blank window.

Hi Andrew, it could very well be the hardware. I'm having trouble with both crusader king 2 and stellaris after I got the new rig.

Other than these paradox 4X games(I do not own EU4 or other paradox 4X titles), I did not encounter other game display bugs. I've played civ5, civ6, endless legend, witches 3, pillars of eternity, tyranny and a plethora of other games just fine.

Is your CK2 issue at all like your Stellaris issue?

Either way, if you are still in the warranty period I'd see if they'll swap it for you.

It's been several month and my ex-boyfriend bought it for me, rather not go through all the hassles.

Sometimes when I open CK2, the title screen is all blue and blurry, the terrain is not of map shape but rather square shape, the game is extremely slow that I usually just kill it in task manager. I didn't think too much of it because if I restart the computer it would be fine again.

Yep, definitely a problem there then. Might be best to get the machine checked out by a computer shop.
