Black flags in Rome Gold

First game or two after installation everything worked fine, but at some moment flags became black when the game was loaded.

I tried a fix suggested for similar problem for EU3, by deleting gfx/flags/flagfiles.dds and gfx/flags/flagfiles.txt, but problem persists.

Any ideas?

It'd be nice to know what caused it. Did those two files recreate automatically for you?

Is the game installed under the system path, ie the default location in c:\program files\ ? If so you may be deleting the wrong copy of those files; try clicking on the Compatibility Files button there which will take you to the real copies in Windows' Virtual Store, and then delete those.

C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\EU Rome Gold\gfx\flags was a path for flagfiles, defaulted by Impulse. They were not recreated and at the moment I don't have any flagfiles.

I can't say what went wrong exactly. Simply at one point all flags were visible and at next reload they were gone. I had problems with internet access at that moment and played in off-line mode. This is the only thing I can think of.

As I say, click on the Compatibility Files button which will take you to the real copies of those files; delete them there and they will recreate and fix your problem.

You might consider uninstalling and reinstalling outside the system path; you can change the installation path by clicking the Orb in the upper left, Preferences |Folders .
