I have recently bought crusader kings 2 from steam and am having difficulties with it. Firstly, the majority of the faction flags are black and missing their respective emblems. Secondly, I am unable to connect to the metaserver even though i have registered my game and saved my password change by clicking on the little golden lockbox next to crusader kings 2 on my games. How do i fix these problems... can they be fixed. My computer is a vista(if that makes a difference).

Do you have black CoA or a black map? they are quite separate issues. The fix linked above always works for black CoA, but if you are on Win7 or Vista you may have to delete the Windows Virtual Store copy of those same files.
If you have a black map, that's a video driver issue and you need to update.
I also have the black CoA problem in my laptop game. I tried the 7th fix listed, and remembered to delete both the copies in C:\My documents\paradox\CKII and C:\Users\<username>\My Documents\Paradox\CKII and change the settings document as suggested.
Are there other copies I'm unaware of somewhere?

I have black CoA:s for the major dynasities. I think I followed the instructions properly but with no result. I'm also running my own mod, but it doesn't seem to matter. I'll try again when I get home, maybe I overlooked something.
If you are using steam. Do verify integrity of game cache. CKII was recently moved to the new file format in steam and it might have caused this to appear. You can find it by pressing right mouse button over CKII in steam library and chosing properties -> local files -> verify integrity of game cache. Let it run until the window states that its finished.
