Well, I think that a bitter peace in the West is very possible at 2 dates:
1940-1941ish, before the US entry. If the sealion is sucessful, U.K. gets an option to withdraw to Canada and continue fighting, or it accepts peace and for game purposes is puppeted (or sattellited depending on the peace mechanism). Pacific war can still go independently. Germany gets Gibraltar, and some other British colonies.
1944, D-days is a catsrophic failure. Germany has nukes. U.K. and U.S. declare peace with Germany acknowledging European and North African gains. War in the Pacific continues.

I do not think that there would be a possibility of bitter Pacific peace if there is a Pearl Harbor.

About this....

Now you know Rudolph Hess? The guy who, supposedly (Yes, read further), flew into Scotland to suggest peace between UK and Germany. Not that this was anything special, Germany had been suggesting peace before in conferences in some neutral countries (Portugal).

Now however Hess is said to be a phony according to the latest discoveries (Well 80ish, but for me it is recent, as I learned about it only yesterday :D ). It is later speculated that some other Nazi Officials wiped out the real Hess and sent in a look-a-like to Scotland, so that Hitler would not know that his second man got wasted. Sounds rather like an UFO-thingie, right? Well in any event they got proof: Hess was shot in WWI, back then he was a pilot, and his lung was damaged badly, however the medical examinations done on the "Hess" in Berlin where he was sitting a life sentence, showed no sign of any lugn-damage... Hess` wife told that the man was changed, and above all when asked about those injuries, the "Hess" replied: "Too late, too late..."

Now ain`t that interesting... :)

However if one believes that the "Hess" truly was Hess, then one might consider doing the event of a bitter peace in the west. (However not that bitter, more of a "rational peace". (By 1940 there really was no front left, except some sand in Africa.))

But what is the truth then? If the real Hess was murdered and it was a phony in Scotland, then the peace event would be impossible...

Although there were those aforementioned conferences before "Hess`" flight into Scotland... And those could make The whole "Hess" -scenario obsolete for the means of making such an event.

...Still makes you wonder...

(Sorry about the confusion... This thread brought to you by "Idealist", or Idealist... The world shall never know!! BWAHAAHAaa. :D )

Exactly, your first suggestion is spot on, Im still not sure what would be a good idea for france though...

unfortunetly, I think HOI 2 is too far down the road for this to be added :(...

hint hint...maybe someone should make a mod if they want to ;)

Or... in HOI2, Hitler gets assasinated, Rudolph Hess will be new Fuhrer of Germany and peace is maded between Axis & Allies, thus ending the WW2
:D ( But then... whats the point of playing WW2 game without WW2  )

Yeah...but....all the German generals etc. that did want to remove Hitler and negotiate for peace also wanted to negotiate the peace only if Germany retained Austria, Sudetenland and big parts of Poland. GB and esp. Churchill would never agree to that.
However if Britain was defeated then Germany could really write their own conditions for peace. Think of it, no-one but the Soviet-union on the European continent to oppose them. The Commonwealth alone could never carry out an invasion, they had to have US support and even then it's questionable if they would have succeded. There would probably be a phony-war, nothing else.
A bitter peace event would include the "Free-British" setting up government probably in Canada, freeing India, Egypt to Italy, middle East going activly pro-German.

The historian said:
Once the US is in the brits woudn't take bitter peace unles the germans landed in america and took the eastern coast maybe.
As for canada, australia and other commonwealth nations i think they should all be asked if they take the peace or fight on alone the computer should ussualy take the peace as the commonwealth joined the war togheter with GB
As for other allies, Who's left? once France,Britan the low countries, poland and the soviets have fallen.

If Germany took UK mainland, it would be unlikely US would join the war (losing side, with no bases in Europe).

Not with Hitler at the rudder

Germany could not win WW2 with Hitler in charge. Germany didn't have the ressources nor the manpower to take russia with the orders Hitler demanded carried out. It would have helped though, if they could've secured a peace with Britain and maybe even been able to secure some british aid against the russians.

Guderian speculatet that, if Hitler immideately after the fall of France had negotiatet the complete liberation of France, a Peace with Britain could be obtained. Thusly, the war against russia could have been reinforced with a vast amount of aeroplanes that would not be shot down over britain, plus no british raids on german installations. Guderian also suggested, that a puppet-france could be made to assist the germans in their war against russia.

Russia recieved supplies from the US. These would never be a subject if britain had not continued the war - and even a war between the US and germany would be unfruitful, as an invasion over several thousand miles of ocean was impossible at the time.

This isnt Real Life though...in HOI it was very possible for a complete German victory...
