[MOD] Bisexual Kings - Because Binary is Bad
This mod introduces an abstract concept of Bisexuality into crusader kings.
It only modifies the 'Seduction' action and is thus only relevant to those of you with the 'Way of Life' expansion. Its probably not compatible with any mod that modifies the 'way_of_life_decisions.txt' in the 'Crusader Kings II\decisions' folder.
This mod enables characters with these traits:
ambitous
homosexual
arbitrary
lustful
hedonist
lunatic
possessed
decadent
cynical
To seduce any same sex characters with these traits:
homosexual
arbitrary
lustful
hedonist
lunatic
possessed
decadent
trusting
Those with the homosexual trait still can't seduce opposite sex partners just like no one from the opposite sex can seduce a character the homosexual trait. Those with any of these other traits can seduce and/or be seduced by parties on either side.
To keep the AI from over zealously pursuing or being pursued by same sex partners when they have one of these 'bisexual' traits, I redid virtually every 'AI_WILL_DO' modifier to ensure that are always more likely to pursue an opposite sex partner over a same sex partner if they are not homosexual. This is the middle ages after all and such pursuits are still taboo.
To clarify, the AI is exactly twice as likely to pursue an opposite sex partner as it is to pursue a same sex partner when it has a 'bisexual' trait but not the homosexual trait.
Why bother with this mod?
Currently in vanilla CK2, the only characters that can try to seduce a same sex partner is a character with the homosexual trait and only if the person they are trying to seduce also has the homosexual trait. Quite frankly, the homosexual trait is too rare for this to be okay. Effectively, in vanilla homosexuals who take the seduction focus are getting the shaft... or aren't I guess. Its worthless to them. That's the take away.
Why not just enable whole scale same sex seduction?
Beyond being unrealistic, its game breaking and disrespectful.
Seduction is already rather over powered in the views of many and if you could seduce any vassal it would be belatedly broken. For balance, because players will abuse the shit out of this kind of thing, I decided it would be better to include a bisexual scope that could dabble into same sex relations and who could be seduced by homosexual characters.
I also believe in respecting the Dev's vision. The very spirit of the seduction action seems to be dependent on an accepting partner. And in this spirit straights can't seduce gays vise versa and I don't find that to be unreasonable. But I also believe anyone with the traits I've marked as bisexual in this mod would be willing to accept such a lover or even pursue such a lover.
As for realism, if you were to just remove the restrictions on same sex seduction the AI would too aggressively chase other men with no real preference.
Notes
I'm gonna level with you, I haven't playtested this mod. I haven't had time. I burnt a lot of time writing all this and actually making the mod. So a lot of this is theory. Not a lot of fact, at the time that I wrote all this. But here is my guess on how this mod will function in practice:
The AI has a huge priority for seducing anything married or landed... or that has parents. So much so I would wager this will go one of two ways. You will almost never see bisexual characters take a male lover or you will see it happen way to often. I don't think there will be a middle ground. The only exception being for those with the attractive trait. Males with the attractive trait will probably get dog piled in a way they haven't been up until now assuming they have a 'bisexual' trait to make them receptive to same sex advances.
How to use the mod
Extract the Zip file into your 'Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod' folder. When you start up CK2, the mod should show up on the mod tab in the launcher.
Fine, I'll stop rambling
But before I do I want to thank any one who chooses to use this mod. I'm open to feedback and I'll keep it updated as long as it stays relevant. Its a simple enough mod after all. So if anything isn't working properly or you feel like I missed a trait that should make a character open to the idea of seducing someone of the same sex or more open to being seduced by the same sex be sure to let me know and I'll take it into consideration.
Now to fade into obscurity.
Updated for 2.5.2
New Notes:
Added ambitious to the list of traits capable of seducing others as per request. It made good sense.
Redid the ai_will_do modifiers to adjust my own flawed logic in some places... should work better?
Modified the permissions on duels because its in the same text file. Now AI females can start duels under the same conditions player females could. Also added a new condition. Women can duel when a realm has full gender equality. I do apologize if you disapprove of me expanding the mod beyond its logical parameters.
As always, I did not test the mod. Let me know if it, or any part of it doesn't work. I particular, I don't think the code that should allow women to duel under full equality is set right.
And now to obscurity into the fade.
