I've tried to bind several commands to keys in Buttons.txt but I've only been half successful so far. There's no problem binding F5 F6 and the like but when it comes to letters, it never works.
Is there any way to get around this? It's not related to DD since I also faced this in HOI2.

He's trying to make shortcuts of some keys, that is binding some functions to certain keys. Gamer talk IIRC.

And to the OP, sorry, no help here.

Mork's right. I'm trying to make shortcuts. I know it's possible because for TRP mod, the team has designed a nice interface in which you can set whatever shortcuts you want.

In Buttons.txt I have made shortcuts for the Diplomacy, Production, Technology and Stats by adding "shortcut = FX" to the command line, like this:

generic = {
id = "BUTTON_VIEW_TECH"
background = "topbar_folder.bmp"
bitmap = "BUTTON_TECH"
shortcut = F5
upper = "BUTTON_TECH_IRO"
lower = "BUTTON_TECH_DRO"
}

With F1 to F12 it works, but as soon as I try "shortcut = A" or another letter, it fails :mad:
As far as I tested, "press" or "generic" brings no change if you alter it.

This would be cool. Does anyone know how to do this for vanilla DD 1.1 ?

My suggestion is quite stupid, but try it with "shortcut = a" (i.e. letter not capitalized) if you didn't do that before.

what about the ASCII-equivalent? not very logical, though...

BTW: did you post at 'Scenarios...'-forum? or at TRP-site?
What is the ASCII-equivalent?
I haven't posted in the TRP forums about this issue. Not a bad idea actually ;) Yet as I've explained, Lothos or whoever did it for the TRP team, has designed an interface for this purpose. I wasn't as curious as at that time so I didn't go through the files. I'll reinstall the TRP mod later when I get hold of it and see if something is altered in Buttons.txt.

ASCII = american standard code for information interchange

every char has a numeric equivalent

but it won't work anyway, I guess...
It's worth a try, at least.
EDIT: I tried but unfortunately, unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't work.

A while ago I developed a tool called KeyMapper. It's primary goal was to remap the pause button to any other key. Perhaps I should extend this tool with more keys?

Download Keymapper here
If you could, that would be most excellent :D
Only one question, which files will it target if you have two versions of DD for example? (the original and another for a mod)

It doesn't target any specific .exe, it's more of a general listener.
Since you can't play more then one game at a time it won't be a problem :p

Run the tool and use the drop-down list of alternative pause buttons.
When you've selected your button lock the tool and minimize it. After that start your game.
