That will put you in disadvantage in proper offensive/defensive wars. Your side will have less knights overall...

I don't think it will matter for offensive wars. Since your vassals aren't called to arms separately (except tribals, maybe?) you won't be able to use their knights. Note that the devs only had their 8 knights in their offensive war. The vassals had so many during the rebellion because they were all called to arms as allies. They weren't contributing their levies to a single overlord.

It might matter for defensive wars, if, for example, a war for a duchy meant both that duchy's holder and their overlord would be defending in a war. I don't recall if that's how it works.

If i remember correctly, some law in ck2 disable levies and force you to call vassals as allies. And in any case, you can make alliances with your vassals (and probably will after long term eugenic plan). And, friends somtimes join your wars.

You're thinking of tribes and nomads - in CK2, they couldn't rise vassal levies, but could call the vassals themselves to war as allies - but all other government forms used vassal levies instead.

I think it would be nice if the loyal vassals were to Join you in the fight against the rebels in exchange for a hook or so - which they will use for a netter contract.
That would lead to more GOT Style wars (if vassals can switch sides) and give the liege a way to get access to more knights.

It's not a law, but a government. It works that way if you are tribal. :)

Huh, i was sure i seen something like that in centralisation or authority law...o_O Well, your vassals can create alliances with, and befriend, each other (which you can influence) so they can bring all their knights in defensive war. And if you friend with several vassals they probably will join your war, bringing their allies and friends. Which is much more historically accurate and immersive.

It's normal for a king to only have 7 or 8 knights? I would say a king shall have more than 50.

What about other cultures? Are they going to have their own version? (Name + graphic)

The way i seen the knights is that 1 Knight also includes their retinue aswell. (EDIT: i daresay the kings etc themselves dont have a huge amount of knights so they dont steamroll their weaker neighbours.)

And yeah in the stream they confirmed that other cultures will have their own versions/equivalents of knights (or religion, i cant quite remember sorry).

We’ve seen a number of ways to acquire more, but I suspect that the system works “best” as designed when there are few enough that you can know them and have some attachment to them when combat rolls around.

And I think we know of at least two cultural (well, I assume cultural) differences for “knight”.

This doesn't sound good. Why do you need to imagine things? The devs may fix that by renaming Knights to Knights and retinue or they could add numbers.

knight are the only major change in ck3 that doesn't seems good
it most likely just force the game to spawn excessive amount of npc in court of every count
They're largely taking the place of the old commander role.
So they shouldn't be additional characters, but should be using the ones that already exist in those courts.

This doesn't sound good. Why do you need to imagine things? The devs may fix that by renaming Knights to Knights and retinue or they could add numbers.
That still wouldn't solve the problem of there being too few if we take it literally.

Most nobles, and sons of nobles would in practice be knights.
In an anglo-normano-french setup most of their tenants and subvassals would be knights also. This would go down to sub "barony" levels.
