Better Performance for the Game

There is no thing as a HD 7900, it could be a 7990, 7970 or a 7950. But any of those cards should run thids just fine. It certainly seems like a driver issue with AMD. I'm running a GTX 660TI and I don't have any problems.



64MB of video memory? I feel bad for you man... No, system memory will not work unless you're running integrated graphics, but those aren't too great anyway...

Eh, it's all right. The demo runs reasonable well, though there is a bit of lag...hopefully the full game will run a bit better.

The game is laggy for me too. It's playable and everything, but it's not going how it should be going, which is annoying as my country grows, and the effect sounds are messy and/or not sounding at all, except if I reduce speed or pause the game (using Logitech G35 headset with virtual 7.1 surround, but it's the same if I switch to stereo).

My specs are:
- AMD Phenom II 550BE (OC) @ 3.6GHz
- Nvidia GTX 470 (OC) @ 800/1600 MHz; memory @ 1750
- Memory 4GB DDR3
- Windows 7 (64-bits)

Probably not the latest rig nor the best processor specifically either, but indeed quite capable of running smoothly any Paradox game or any of the latest games really... except for EUIV (demo?).

Also, multi-sampling and bloom in EUIV is set to zero and disabled, respectively. The rest is enabled running with monitor refresh @ 120Hz (looks better ). Running in fullscreen of course. Nvidia control panel settings are default (letting third-party software decide).

I would go into Nvidia's console (or Catalyst for ATI cards) and check if the 3D settings are pushing for quality rather than performance. That sort of choppiness really sounds like antialiasing pushed too high.

EDIT: And before anyone bothers, yes the game loads slowly. Even on a gaming rig with my SSD. It'll need to be optimized I think.

I did. And it doesn't have anything to do, just that if I don't reach 120 in-game FPS, then it's like playing in 60Hz. Nothing changes.

Yeah my cache sucks so that's probably it. I only aim at the GPU because of the OP's choppiness issues, which is generally the GPU.

The default settings on my Catalyst CC were pushing two types of antialiasing, so I don't trust default settings.

If something is weak then it would be your CPU. To make sure that you actually meet the requirements, I recommend that you go to this link and search for EUIV and check if you pass.

The Catalyst Center defaults for the application's AA settings, so I don't think that's it, thanks though!

Oh, you ARE running integrated graphics. Then it should feed of the system RAM. Also, do you know anything more than i5 @ 2.5Ghz? It makes quite the difference But try setting the resolution to the lowest it can go. If it is still laggy, the CPU can't process fast enough, and you'll need a faster CPU to run the game. If, however, the lag goes away, then it is the HD 3000 graphics that are bottlenecking. If that is the case I would recommend messing with the resolution untill you find a nice balance between lag and resolution, and be happy that you can run the game at an acceptable speed

I got some lagg with my 420 mgt too (yeah it isn't a gaming graphics card, but still in the recommended level)

I took a closer look on some models of the Demo:

• trees seem to be relatively high-poly and some got a diffuse-texture of 1024x1024, which is a bit big.
• trees seem to have 3 lods (level of detail), that should be fine

I have a much crappier PC than most people who complain about performance, yet the game works super smooth for me. The only issue which causes lag for me is when I select a large number of units while I have a province window open since then a large number of unit windows moves from the left and the province screen moves to the right, but this is an isolated case. Overall, the game works better than V2 and just as good as CK2, maybe even better than CK2.

I have a 3 year old dual core processor at 3,0Ghz, 4Gb ram on Windows 7 32-bit and some crappy ATI graphics card (HD6450) which I bought at a supermart when my old top notch card died on a sunday morning and no other store was open. And the crappy graphics card works better than the 'top-notch' one did and was 5 times cheaper. The only thing that does speed up my computer are the SSD drives, but I doubt they play any role other than loading the game faster.

I was checking the benchmarking site, and there's been a huge leap in performance for graphics over the past two, three years... so something top notch then is barely middle of the pack now, apparently... and there's a huge difference between middle of the pack and the new top notch ones.

I noticed my mouse stops moving occassionally in the game. I thought my mouse was faulty at first because its a new one and a new mouse mat but its fine in Windows itself. So it must be the game, I was playingthe tutorial at the time. Shortly after that I exited the tutorial and the whole game froze.

I have an i5 2.5Ghz with Turboboost to 3.1Ghz (whatever that means) and NvidiaGeforceGT630 with up to 1GB VRAM. I also have 8GB of memory. running Windows 8.

Since the Graphics card ISN'T the integrated (Intel HD4000) I have to force it to use the better GPU. I went to Can you run it site and tested it said I should be able to run it like a champ.

When running the Demo I had some lag and played around with the Video Options. Like another forumite said the rivers and the Trees are the biggest problems. Not quite sure what Bloom is. When playing most Paradox Games (notably EU3) I tend to turn off things like Advanced Water and other Eye Candy.

I know lots of players like the "Eye Candy" but I can do without.

My biggest complaint is how fast the Sprites move between provinces.

Trick that helped (a bit at least) for me : check your ventilation, I had severe lag that came from the CPU overheating (when the CPU overheats it lower's it's performance to avoid getting higher in temperature), since we are in summer it can be quite annoying.

On a laptop it can really make a difference (if your CPU temperature just keeps getting over 80 then you really need to clean the ventilator/remove the dust).

I did 4 things and it is now running smoothly (not sure which one fixed it):

1) Went into msconfig and stopped the ATI Catalyst console from starting at startup
2) Deleted the EUIV Demo folder from MyDocuments/Games
3) Deleted and reinstalled the Demo from Steam
4) Did not tough any of the graphics settings, scroll speeds, etc. and started up a game

Seems to be running a lot smoother!
