Better Performance for the Game

Your card is below the minimum spec, the minimum is 8800 while GT520 is about the level of 8600 I believe.

Out of curiosity, who built your computer? Those GT x20s I thought are for the Pentium guys to bump their old machines. With an i5 it's next to useless honestly.

I was a Slowtium guy until last year had to build a new computer from scratch and didn't research much on the Video Card, and when I saw a 2 GB card at like 40 bucks I thought we still lived in a world where the bigger number meant better So that's pretty much my bad, though I did have an integrated video card so even this seemed heavensent. Just say the video benchmark site and yeah... mine is like a 360 and the minimum is at 760 or something like that. Sooooo... to buy new things off I go, I think!

And a bit OT, how do I check the FPS in my computer? Such is slight witchcraft to me, still.

CKII is lagged mostly in Sweden with a lot of trees.I haven't try the EUIV yet ,but I hope it better than CKII.

I get lag when I scroll the map around, but only when the game is un-paused. As far as I can tell, it lags slightly every time the day changes while scrolling, this makes the game frustrating to play at speed 3 or higher. I have a similar problem with Victoria 2, but ck2 and eu3 work just fine.

Just to clarify it for people here: If you have problem while scrolling when paused then that is most likely a GPU issue. If you have problems while the game is running each turn, like each day it stops for a second, then thats a CPU based problem to due with processing. Two very different issues with two very different solutions.

My problem definitely sounds like a cpu processing issue, i'll have to wait until release before anything can be done i guess. My cpu meets the recommended system requirements, so hopefully i shouldn't have to upgrade it.

I get a noticeable hiccup every first of the month. It may be due to calculations, but I like to think it's because of the yellow number text for province money and the sound that comes with it. And there's no option to get rid of it! Why is no one else annoyed by this? My only complaint in a great game so far.

HAHA. No I seriously doubt that. It'll be the per-month calculations.

I use a program called Fraps.

Well, I finally ended up getting a thereabouts memory card; its an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT, not the best out there but serviceable... I'm running the Fraps program and it shows a respectable 40something FPS with it, and EU3 is running at a full 60 fps... which is better than I had. For what it's worth my Windows System Experience Evaluation jumped from a 4.7 in Video to a 6.9, out of 7.9

.. and although EU4 was slightly while not unbearably slow at the start, disabling multisampling and most of the map graphics gimmicks (trees etc.) the game now runs pretty smoothly. Almost as good as CK2. HoI3 runs the best for me, while Vicky 2 is generally the slowest.

But then again I'm running 2 year old drivers. Been trying to update them but the newest drivers keep causing flickering on my screen.

Did you two check that your drivers are up to date?

When I am uncertain if my computer can handle a game I use to run this little browser tool from AMD. It works no matter what GPU you have, though. It will also check if your drivers are up to date.

Drivers are up to date. I think it is an AMD driver thing. Knew I should have paid a little bit more and gone with NVIDIA, they update their drivers constantly for new games and compatibility.

Hmm, it says I need 512 MB of dedicated video card memory, and I only have 64 (though I have 1632 MB of shared system memory). Can the game not used the shared memory?

That's what I thought originally, but it doesn't seem to help at all, even with unchecking everything else.

I'd have to guess that Decimal is correct, and that it's an AMD driver issue. Hopefully it is resolved soon.

When getting a new card, atleast from NVIDIA, avoid anything that has the prefix "GT", they're not very good. Get a GTX (something). Any GTX, even back to the 280 should do just fine in EUIV. But I recommend getting something newer, for future purposes For AMD, anything with the prefix "HD" is fine. ANYTHING of the recent HD series cards will do just fine.

If something is weak then it would be your CPU. To make sure that you actually meet the requirements, I recommend that you go to this link and search for EUIV and check if you pass.

There is no thing as a HD 7900, it could be a 7990, 7970 or a 7950. But any of those cards should run thids just fine. It certainly seems like a driver issue with AMD. I'm running a GTX 660TI and I don't have any problems.

64MB of video memory? I feel bad for you man... No, system memory will not work unless you're running integrated graphics, but those aren't too great anyway...
