Better Performance for the Game

Hey guys,

I just tried the demo and it's a bit... laggy? I guess would be the word. Or choppy.

I have the following setup: Intel i5-2500 @ 3.30 GHz, 8 gb ram, and a GeForce GT 520 2 GB Video Card... I'm unsure as to what part of that would require a boost to properly work the game without a bit of lag / choppiness which is resulting... thoguh CK2 plays perfectly fine :-/

Yes it is laggy. 2.9ghz 12 gb ram 7850 ati radeon.
I'm guessing it has to do with the CPU.
Turn down bloom, trees, reflection, post effects, etc.
Anything that doesn't seem important really.

In all PI games, I always find that terrain map mode causes the most lag. You can probably speed up the game a bit by simply never using it!

That's strange, i found that it ran really well. Better than CK2.

For me it was smoother than CKII, probably because the game now supports quad cores.

When does the choppiness occur? When scrolling? It might just be the engine, however your gpu is alittle weak for gaming...

I get a noticeable hiccup every first of the month. It may be due to calculations, but I like to think it's because of the yellow number text for province money and the sound that comes with it. And there's no option to get rid of it! Why is no one else annoyed by this? My only complaint in a great game so far.

Do you still have to edit the settings via the text file, or did they finally put all those options via an in-game menu?

Hmm i got: i7@2.8 GHz , 6 gb ram, and gtx 560ti 1gb, and the only time the game had some hiccups was when i turned the speed to max and started sifting thru menus quickly (the hiccup was that the menus opened a bit more slowly than on lower speeds.).

If you put the game at Max Speed you're using all the CPU power you can. It's not a preset speed, but it's an option that makes the game go as FAST as possible: better CPU, faster time-passing. That said, Max Speed is only for "waiting", if you want to do something else and continue going fast then you can set the level inmediatly below the maximum one.

Of course, this is supposing that it lagged at that moment. If it lagged even being paused, then something happens with your rig - mine is playing it smooth.

Thats weird because I can run the game perfectly fine with highest settings the demo allows and i have an i3 CPU with some bullshit graphic card (It's a GT 240M from nvidia) which is 3 times worse than the graphic card i got in my desktop from 2008 lol. 3GB RAM DDR3 here.
I was actually impressed by how smooth the game ran with so few resources my laptop had to offer.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet, I would mess with my graphics settings and try zooming in and out and then panning the camera, if lowering your settings/AA etc gets rid of the stuttering then its your GPU thats causing the problem (not drawing fast enough when you pan etc). In that case I would invest in getting a x60+ range nvidia card as the x50 and belows tend to be non-gaming cards (for like word processing ^.^). You could even go down a generation and get a 460 or something on the cheap.

I noticed a bit of lag on the main menu, but I found the demo ran very smoothly for the most part and my laptop has lower specs than those provided above. The games are pretty lightweight compared to others. Any midrange PC should be able to run a paradox title with relative ease.

Exceedingly true, which is why I'm so weirded out. It runs smoother than my EU3, which is by far my worst running Paradox Game for some reason. :-/

Thankfully we have almost direct imports from the manufacturers in China and Asia, and added to that I can buy it "for the office" and shave off an extra 18% from the VAT it's actually very competitive with Amazon and Ebay

You should try updating your graphic card's driver and also check how much video memory it has. Despite of my graphic card being bullshit, it has 2GB video memory. Some cards are way faster but have less video ram, so that might also be one of the causes for lag i dunno.

Same here even though I run games like Bioshock Infinite and Dishonored perfectly fine.

Its running a big sluggish compared to CK2 and Vikie. But it is playable. Amazing atmosphere, graphics, interface. The game I think is designed to run a bit slower pace than the other games. There is so much to do! I hope the released version has a bit tighter optimization. Best game I ever played.
