Tartaria sounds very unfitting. Would the "Cuman Empire" or "Tartar Empire" be more better?

Turkestan means "Land of the Turks", seems more unfitting since I'm a cuman countryKebabia.
Now seriously, I think Turkestan would be best.

The Tartars just arrived with the Mongols so it does not fit in with a 11th century start.

Actually, after checking wikipedia, "Great Tartary" sounds pretty legit and period accurate.
Tataria without Tatars has seemed weird to me from the day it was added. Honestly, it should be Cuman-Kipchak Confederation, but that's probably a little long. Cuman Confederation, perhaps?
Maybe it should change based on who owns it, at least more extensively. Cumania, Khazaria, Pechenegia, Turkestan, Tartaria (for Mongols), Great Bolgharia, Scythia (for Alans, Persians, Kurds), maybe something more universal for non-native cultures.
So do Persia, Arabia and Abyssinia. It doesn't necessarily preclude it from being an empire-tier title as well.
Not under those exact names though. On the empire level, they're Persian Empire, Arabian Empire, etc. You could use Cuman Empire but not Cumania. That's what I was trying to say.

I'd argue for a blanket term (Skythia, Steppe, Khaganate, anything but Tataria) with cultural names that turn it to Cumania/Patzinakia/Khazaria/Tataria/Golden Horde or w/e. It was always known to its neighbors by the name of its residents. One thing is certain though - Tataria is grossly anachronistic in 867 start.

I would probably say something along the lines of the Western Turkic Khaganate, or just the Turkic Khaganate. Most ruling clans of the Steppes before the Mongols wanted to be identified with one clan, the Ashina (which actually exists as the Dukes of Azov in 867.) The Ashina were one of the most important clans in the Steppes, and their reign on the steppes dates back to the early 500s in Mongolia, and ends with them slowly slipping into the black as subjects of the Khazar Qagan-Beks. Over their existence they created several powerful empires including the Gokturk Khaganate, the Turkic Khaganate and then the Western Turkic Khaganate.
I see no reason why a Cuman dominated steppe would not try to return to some sort of old state that the Ashina held.
