Supplies are usually a pretty annoying part of the army management. Making sure the units are small enough to "fit" supply capacity is micromanagement.
And if they are already to big, I can not "refill" them with supplies. Reinforcements will basically result in them permanently out number even starvation.
Some ideas to improove that:
Levies die first
Currently everyone has the same attrition to starvation. Change it so that levies die first. Maybe even that they are sacrificed to maintain high supply for the army overall. Levies are cheap.
Or at least give us a way to "detach excess Levy", to get below the local limit.
Raise supplies worth only
We can raise all levies or local levies. But I think what we need is a way to raise "the supply capacities worth" of Units.
You would start with the Men at Arms. And if there is still supply capacity left, you would add Levies. Keep in mind to use the maximum strenght for the units, otherwise we are back to square one.
If they can not be supplied in the province where you raise them, you most definitely would have too many
Resupply stance
Allow us a stance that massively reduces the supply weight for the army, so we have a hope of resupplying even if slighly above local supply cap.
Maybe call it "Disperse Forces" and give it a massive combat penalty?
Allow Men at arms to split evenly
If I got 400 of a single Men at Arms Regiment and hit "split army", it would be ideal if the armies end up with 200 each of that Regiment. That way we can get someonewhat comparable armies, rather then 1 Elite army and abunch of levy trashmobs.
