Puns are cute, but it seems like most achievements are now English pun based when there are tons of historical goals that are way more fun to roleplay towards.

The Crown Jewel: Form Great Britain and directly own all of India

Napoleon's Dream: Starting as France own or have a subject own every province in Europe except for the Britain Region while England or Great Britain exists

Definitely Third Rome: Starting as Muscovy form the Roman Empire while Byzantium and Ottomans no longer exist.

Tsar of all Slavs: directly own and core the entirety of the Balkans as Russia.

Nippon Prosperity Sphere: Starting as a Japanese nation form Japan and directly own all of Korea, China, Phillipines and Indonesia

Angevin Union: Starting as France or England directly own all of The French and British regions.

Operation Enduring Freedom Reversed: Starting as Afghanistan own or have a subject own all of North America.

American Empire: Starting as the USA have an Afghan, Vietnamese, and a Mashriqi cultured country as vassals.

Mr. Popular: Have 10 diplomatic relations slots and fill them. (Or whatever the theoretical max is now)

Give the other bookmarks a reason to be played with those famous historical wars.

I've already got Master of India. Redoing it as England is not interesting.
Napoleon's Dream: Starting as France own or have a subject own every province in Europe except for the Britain Region while England or Great Britain exists
I've already got Better Than Napoleon and Over A Thousand.
Definitely Third Rome: Starting as Muscovy form the Roman Empire while Byzantium and Ottomans no longer exist.

This is just the mopping-up exercise that follows on from One Night in Paris if you did it by taking provinces instead of forcing the PU.

Alternatively, this is "pretty much every time I play France", because Anglia delenda est.

Not only are these completely pointless to the time period EU4 is set in, it's just unnecessary salt to wounds just for the sake of an edgy achievement.

Might as well make one for pillaging the state of New York as Afghanistan, or 100% devastate the east coast as Dai Viet, or threaten war for the province of Crimea as Muscovy. It's just not in good taste.

These all sound fairly generic to me, just conquest this and conquest that. I get you want new and better achievements but these sound fairly generic. Achievements like "To the Bone" which is use pillage capital 7 times is unique, and while it is a pun like you state, it makes people play a nation that is otherwise mostly unknown, and isn't just a generic "conquest here" achievement. Or "One family to rule them all", have your dynasty on 8 different thrones, or "Arabian Coffee", Form Arabia and be the nation producing the most coffee in the world etc etd.

I think, while they are a bit odd, the pun like achievements make you go for goals you wouldn't normally go for and play nations you wouldn't normally play with different playstyles.

The Quiz Quiz achievement was a lost opportunity.

What it is, is a half-baked retread of “No Trail Of Tears” combined with a variation of “Sunset Invasion” that makes no logical, historical, thematic, cultural, or linguistic sense.

What it should have been: choose a Souix cultured tribe in the middle of N.America so the player isn’t the same culture, idea set, play-style, and geolocation as an existing achievement.

Player has multiple gameplay options. Head east to reform ASAP, head south to convert/conquer Central America before the colonizers arrive, or use the (then new) Federation mechanics to create a Union of Plains Natives like Sitting Bull tried to do. Then just kick the colonizers out of N. America.

Could call it “No/UnWounded Knee”, “Dances With Wolves”, or if they wanted an internet meme “Arrow to the Knee”, with a conquistador having said injury.

But sadly, that’s not what they did.

1) Here is a new DLC mechanic, do it once and get an achievement!

2) [American pop culture pun]. Requirements: Starting as [name], almost do a world conquest.

There's at least one Swedish pop culture pun, and another achievement that's a reference to an Irish football (not handegg) team :)

4) Counter history’s tide and achieve what this nation aspired to, but was unsuccessful.

The most fun achievements are not too easy and can be approached in different ways.
Ekran Resmi 2022-09-07 12.30.06.png

As long as they don't make it rely heavily on RNG or have strict, convoluted, tedious requirements I'm fine with puns. On the other hand, If I had a penny every time a dev thought babysitting the formation of an AI Prussia was fun, I'd have two.

I came up with those ideas in a few minutes as examples. Let's not get offended over things that happened before we were born. The point of this topic is better achievements based on historical conquests and utilizing the other bookmarks.

Personally I like having reasons to go back to the major powers *after* they've received updates like france recently. Way more than eating my greens before a certain age haha
