It seems that the bigger the development difference the negative modifier for offering vassalization increases. My logic says it should be decreasing. As in I am 10 times bigger than you you should be more likely to accept than when I was 5 times bigger.

Welp, I finally hit around 1560 - 1600 in my Switzerland game.

I have built up over 200 AE with Genoa, and over 100 with other nations, such as Naples and France. Even my allies Aragon and Austria have AE counts somewhere in the 60-100 range.

So, facing a rather sizable coalition, I have been sitting and spinning waiting for AE to burn away. Only, it doesn't seem to do so very much.

Sure, Switzerland is the size of Switzerland + Milan + Savoy + a few minor Italian states.

But it's not like how Austria just gobbled up Bavaria all in a go. And got 16 AE for it total. Huhn?

I take a single province in a war, and I get 23 AE. Austria -- who is not the HRE -- has gobbled up a line of nations and gets nada in AE. No coalitions.

I don't get what is going on precisely, but it seems stacked in the AI's favor.

I don't get what is going on precisely, but it seems stacked in the AI's favor.

Only in the sense that lucky nations get -25% AE. The rest of the AE mechanics are same for the player as AI nations. (Austria also has BROT from NIs.)

Northern Italy has some very high development provinces that cause a lot more AE than Bavarian ones. E.g. Milan starts at 30. As a player you may also have used separate peaces and unjustified demands to expand, which causes a lot more AE than a claim with conquest CB.

Is Big Blue Blob possible in 1.13? I took 2 provinces (10 and 23 development) in a single war from two different nations and already AE is anywhere between 40 ~ 60??? I can only imagine trying to push for another 60+ provinces pushing coalition size incredibly high.

Granted I'm not the best of the player but I'm just having hard time imagining it without some unforeseen glitch exploit of some sort.

Make sure you're not expanding into the HRE, a good way to go is either south into North Africa or into Ireland - Scotland and then Norway, cheap provinces outside of the HRE.

Also, I've noticed a small glitch where exiled armies that are on an enemy province when the war starts are able to siege the province but NOT actually take it - i.e., the siege % just keeps going up. When they move it is reset but I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this glitch?

I haven't seen that, but I have seen a lot of AI black-flagged stacks that are unable to find their way home for years and years. That's what made one of the wars against Otto so easy: they had 45k exiled troops sitting on Rome, and couldn't find their way back to their own territory until after peace was declared.

I really, really need bug reports with saves in cases where they still can't get exile units home. I know the bug is still around but it's much rarer / harder to repro now.

There was a problem uploading a graphic image, so I can't give you a screen shot, and when I try to upload a save game file, I can't select any -- all the save games are greyed out so I can't select them to upload. (Quite meta. There is a bug trying to report a bug...)

Yet here's the basics:

In 1570, Otto was in a war with Wallachia and Papal state. He sent a 40k stack to siege Roma. He did so, and eventually peaced out with the Pope and gobbled Wallachia.

In 1572, those 40k troops were still sitting on Rome, black flagged, when the League War kicked off. They sat there the entire war.

The AI gets the same level of AE. And that's how you can tell the changes are over done when a massive commonwealth wins a war against russia then gets a coalition of half of europe and the ottomans then you see like 5 ruthenian minors.

Lots of small countries is nice but the AI being suicidal going about its business as it has for the last 10 patches kind of shows how over the top the changes are.

I am consistently seeing dead Burgundy then dead France then massive Provence and massive Brabant and massive Toulouse, then dead Brabant and dead Provence and dead Toulouse.

An uncompressed EU4 save is larger than our individual upload quota (and even a compressed one is pushing it). I believe the correct procedure is to put it on a reputable file-sharing site and send a link.

That would make sense if I was seeing the same kinds of coalition wars against the AI. I did see one coalition against a sizable Burgundy when he took 5 French provinces and another against Liege once each, but otherwise, like i said, Austria can swallow all of Bavaria in a single war -- all HRE provinces -- while he is not the Emperor -- and not see any coalition whatsoever. And Otto can munch all he wants. I've never, ever seen a coalition against Otto. Ever.

If this was an anti-blob mechanism, it isn't working for the biggest AIs. It is nastily effective as a human player limiter.
