Okay. I got *another* coalition after sitting and spinning for the early decades of the 1600s after a war with France + Savoy. Took the last Savoy province, finishing a process that had been halted for about a full century. Also took 5 French provinces. I expected a coalition, but.... 99 AE for SCOTLAND? (They were not a French ally.)
It is very, very easy to get to over 200 AE.
So, let's roll with it. Half the continent, practically, aside from my own allies, France (because he's peaced out) Castile, Hungary and a few others joins the coalition. That's when my ally Aragon thinks it's a good idea to invade Castile. That breaks my alliance with Portugal, as they are allied with the Spaniards.
Big war. Austria and even Commonwealth are in on Spain. It's going okay.
That is, of course, when the Coalition War triggers. Bar decides he wants to get feisty.
350 k enemies against about 250k allies (at war start).
It's a good thing I had over 1,000 ducats in the bank. A massive mercenary wave or four later, and the coalition decides to call it quits.
However, even "winning" the Coalition War, and then going back to pound Castile into the sand, I am still left with over 200 AE, and it looks like it's going to be pegged around 50-200 for most neighbors for the rest of the 17th Century.
Didn't we go through the EUIV versions that resulted in "sitzkrieg" before?
