That's a bit extreme, but I would agree that it's been awhile since I've played EU. Every time I think about playing a country, I think about all the problems associated with it. The unbalanced (and just not fun) horde mechanic kills off a bunch of possible countries, in particular Russian ones. The underpowered nature of the Islamic world (leading to the constant conquest of North Africa by Castille) and the wreckage that is Eastern Europe (because of the hordes) leads to a very blah world, where Western Europe has no possible challengers of any kind.
The reasons for this are many, like the aforementioned hordes, but the problems with Eastern Europe and the Islamic world are also tied to other issues. For instance, in DW Paradox decided to REDUCE the tech rate of the Muslim/Ottoman/Eastern tech groups, thus further widening the unrealistic gap between them and the West. In addition to this, while Paradox busily added provinces to Japan, the Middle East remains an area with far too provinces. It's a big reason why Castille can take over North Africa so quickly. Just look at what happened with Switzerland in DW when it got all of its new provinces. It became a solid country that sticks around in most games now, even though the new provinces are far from rich. The same effect would be seen in North Africa if more provinces were added.
I could go on and on...
