Beta - Belgium - 24.2.2011

I have noticed following things:

-> France beats up UK in terms of Industrial and Overall score
-> UK still remains the biggest military power
-> France wins the scramble of Africa without doubt (3/4 = French)

-> Sometimes Icons in the menus are switching places in a very annoying way
-> Can´t build artillery because I have not enough aritillery
-> Oddly enough a worldwide overproduction of artillery exists

-> Overall performance is better but I observe some lags from 1880 +
-> Haven´t encountered any form of rebellion yet

All in all I am quite pleased with the patch as it makes the game a little more challening. I am just worried that with the patch france became the new super power and I find it unpleasing how China falls apart being unable to defend against any form of agression. Is the Chinese AI even trying? :p

+1 to this. In my Prussian game I couldn't even build artillery brigades for lack of liquor. Even though I was the number 2 power on the planet in terms of prestige. This was despite having several liquor factories of my own, BTW. I'm not sure exactly where the liquor those factories produced was going, but it wasn't showing up in my stockpile. There's always massive shortages of very basic goods, even for great powers.

Pops need a lot of liquor

Ottoman Empire 1850.

The thing is there is not enough small arms production worldwide. I can only recruit 1 brigade per year if I am lucky. What do you think?

I was playing Two Sicilies and was ble to eventually get enough small arms for some Tunisian cavalry brigades, but it took a while. Cement never showed up, ever. There definitely seems to be a shortage of certain basic goods, not sure if this is intentional or unintentional.

Look on it from the positive side, now it is easier to build profitable factories! Just as long as your State Capitalist;) You really really need a few cement factories early or you will not build anything

There's a reason it's called a beta patch, guys. Don't expect it to be perfect.

i start the game and i get an eroor "file missing VCOMP100.dll"
help :)

Same problem to me.
I have reinstalled Vic2, updated my system, cut off antivir and renewed the drivers - but no effect at all.

My system is a Intel C2D E6600 @ 3 Ghz, Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 MB, Kingston 4 GB DDR2 RAM, ASUS P5B, Creative SB X-Fi Gamer, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
Also i have installed the librarys, safferli told us. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en)

Any ideas for this problem?

Honestly flabbergasted by the improvement in speed. Don't care how much is broken (not much as far as I've seen, maybe a few events), the difference is enormous. Can we get some technowizard explanation for what changes were made there?

Or the SDK! Ploz!

I have actually tweaked the code so that instead of the current system were if actual bought is 95% of supply we set demand to 110% of supply we set it to 120% and prices start to rise a bit more. The code we had already factored in their 'bug' just not by enough. The arrogance of these people, that everyone else was to be denied their opinion because they are so important angered me profoundly. It is shocking behavour and I am not going to tolerate it. Everyone who paid for Victoria 2 has a right to express an opinion about the beta patch. I make no promises about what we will be able to do anything about it, but we will seek to listen.

I'm guessing that we need slightly higher militancy to get from Underground to Harassment in order to convert the Conservative faction in the UH.

Rabble rabble rabble, I didn't get any pizza today, rabble rabble rabble.

I feel my MIL rising already!

I doubt that, you should see what these guys post about me over in Something Awful. Not very nice at all.

In France we have an very old saying :

Bien faire et laissez braire!

Roughtly , it might be translated : Keep up the good work and let the donleys scream (I do not know the verb for a donkey scream :( )

From a professional (I) to another professional (You), I would tell you 'your dedication (? spelling) is appreciate, as well as your drive to improve the existing. Alas, nothing is ever perfect in this world, and as much as we dream of perfect games from day 1 and voice it, you surely know we also are aware of the problems existing along that yellow brick road you venture for us!'

Simply do not listen to those who 'are whinning', and be assured that most of your customers appreciate the fun it is offer to us by your games (P'Dox games I mean), even if sometimes we are grovelling.

I'm currently playing a game as Prussia - now into the 1840s, and nothing seems amiss. What I've seen thus far, I like very much.

I posted it in the bug forum, but I think it's been overlooked - is there any chance that our devs will consider making secondary cultures contribute towards national focus points? I have every intention of taking over all of Germany, and I would rather not turn away those Bavarian scientists and Austrian physicists...

The beta seems a good improvement, some bugs have been found. The biggest, consistent one for me was the 'No Cement or Small arms' bug. Once a weaker/uncivilised country losses its brigades, new ones are nearly impossible to get back as there is so little small arms that are received.

But keep up the good work guys.

I started a game as the US and noticed a couple of issues/potential issues:
- France and Russia industrialize absurdly fast and achieve astronomic industry scores.
- I chose Manifest Destiny and took all my cores from Mexico; toward the end of the war, the CSA seceded but they were ridiculous pushovers and never fielded more than 15 brigades split in multiple armies, which was about equivalent to my standing army alone, not counting mobilization. In general, the whole country (USA and CSA) are incredibly weak in soldier pops at the start, so maybe the CSA simply secedes too quickly - and I even took all the appeasement decisions
- some goods have massive discrepancies between supply and demand/actual bought; this made it hard even with a great power to get such innocuous things as concrete or small arms... I shudder to think what happens if you play a minor nation with little prestige
Otherwise, great patch so far!

I was just playing a US game and my Civil War triggered in '65. They put up a good fight, but most of their armies were destroyed when they seceded. About a quarter of my army rebelled. They all died, but if I had kept all my dixie troops in one or two armies, they would have put up a good fight. They also mobilized close to 20 brigades. It was impressive. Much better than my previous games.

Well, first thing I notice is that the UK military score has not run away with its self, only just going over 100. This is a drastic improvment. It's also industrialised less, so much so that it is in fact olnly third in industrialisation and second in total. The top spot? Russia. Russia still industrialises much too quickly. It has twice the industry points as the UK.The UK's been nerfed to a suitible level; now hit Russia with the nerf bat too!

Actually, I've noticed that all countries have industrialised less this time around. Normally I'd ecpect to see the top four or five countries with ind score of well over 1000 at this point, however the only countries that do are Russia and France. The USA is only on 600, and the NGF is at 800. This is a big improvment IMO, aside from the afformentioned Russia problem.

Europe has held together much more nicely; the borders are very tidy indeed! Asia too, with the inclusion of Burma in the UK's SoI, is no longer a disjointed mess of red and green, which was a pleasant surprise.

POP's i've noticed are much more balanced now. No longer do the poor somehow get enough money to buy three castles despite full taxation. The rich seem to be struggling mind you, and there seems to be a shortage in key goods, namely liquor, and a huge surplus in others, such as steel. For the first time I have ever seen, steel is decisivley unprofitable! Everything else on the other hand does turn a profit. My only qualm is that the prices remain fixed; they will either peak at max or minimum price and then don't move for the rest of the game, which is irritating because I have to mouse over to check whether its stuck in over or under supply.

All in all I'd say 1.3 is shaping up to be a big improvment, but it does need a bit of fine tuning here and there (i.e. Russia :p )

With all due respect, I am glad to see the problem is acknowledge but I fail to see how this helps the fundemental problem. What if acutal bought is 95% of supply because price is too high? You could have a situation where demand is 95% of supply because the economy is overproducing which means price should be dropping.

With all due respect, maybe I am missing something here but is this not why the price spirals were caused before? If price is rising when it should be dropping, Qs>Qd, then you get the problem of factories closing due to pops being able to buy fewer goods and product going into the sea for a loss. It just seems to me this is making the problem worse not better. I mean no offense but as a trained economist, how the economy performs is top priority in my enjoyment of the game.

Supply = demand means the amount people want to buy given their income = the amount people want to sell. If supply > demand prices should drop allowing people to buy more and factories make less. As you describe the code when demand is slightly less than supply price rises. This makes the situation worse factories produce more and pops can buy less so more goods are thrown into the sea causing bigger losses for factories. With all due respect, I just think what you describe here is the cause of some of the problems not the fix.
