INTRODUCTION & GENERAL GAME DESCRIPTION

Hello world,
The game was played using the March 17 1.3 beta.
The country chosen was Haiti.
The game style was to avoid diplomatic moves but do everything else.
I encouraged clergymen early. At about 1.5-2% I switched to clerks.
I paid my soldiers next to nothing for the first 50 years or so. Then full payment.
I had difficulty attaining clerk/beurocrat/clergy levels till immigration solved all.
Immigration started instantly & heavily once I turned to a democracy.
Immigration was mostly British, German, French and later Chinese subjects.
Immigration allowed me to boost my population from ~100K to 1.16M by 1925.
I ended the game upon encountering a CTD sometime past 1925.
From what I can tell of the logs, the CTD is possibly texture related.

POSITIVE NOTES / THINGS I LIKED & ENJOYED
Code:
- WWI happened!(an era of massive senseless death anyway) - NGF dominated & WP easily
-->well it was 2 concurrent wars against NGF, one by FRA and one by RUS/ENG alliance in 1917.
- Markets felt like it evolved nicely. Economy = near perfect. Much respects.
- Capitalists seem ok - make mistakes but eventually fine. Which I liked.
- Rich were very rich, with huge bank-savings. Even with higher taxes than the rest. Never noticed this before but I found it quite satisfying.
- Noted that Immigration really depends on employment conditions in target nation. This is generally good and I found it to be quite reasonable.
- However it does mean immigration occurs in spurts as factories catch up, and then immigration wave hits and are overwhelmed again, then wave stops due to unemployment, then factories catch up again and the cycle repeats.
- Once gain, just confirming that the remove sphere then possible war is working
- 1st time ever, I saw the CSA live long! And prosper! They even took Missouri & became a GP! Sick.
- Literacy rate gain seemed better - No longer seemed to do 10%-100% in 100 yrs
- Found Spheres to be useful - ie access to raw materials in US sphere allowed me to supply high end goods to the US market. Really enjoyed this.
- Saw Flanders for the first time (rebelled from Belgium)
- Saw the Statue of Liberty event for the first time
- At some point Alaska was sold ALONG with Yukon territory RUS claimed. Nice.
- Undying, infinitely multiplying soldiers fixed! Now if I didn't pay them, they declined nicely. Thanks.
SUGGESTIONS FOR GUI / INFO ACCESSIBILITY
Code:
- Occupied provinces MUST be shown in Outliner (I lost a rebellion because I didn't realize a province was occupied!). Knowledge of occupied provinces is KEY.
- Show unemployed farmers in summary production tab (had 29% unemployed farmers yet I was completely unaware of it!)
- Make pop growth/promo/demo/immigration tooltip more accessible. See [post=12162001]this post[/post] for more details on how to do so.
- Show initial war goal in declaration of war notifier message box
- On province view, in occupation progress bar, show name of assaulter
- Improve plurality tooltip to show cause for change
- Always show capitalists in production screen, even if not investing
- Give Japan & Dutch different Colors. They operate in the same areas. Very confusing.
- Bring back the ledger page where it showed leading producers of each resource. It was informative and gave you a good sense of satisfaction.
SUGGESTIONS FOR OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
Code:
- Make Mechanization techs also give Tobacco bonuses
- GPs should NOT be annexable (easily)....CSA was #5-#7 and was annexed!
- Allow option to keep (ie not over-write) all auto-saves, named by date (ie 01_01_1836 vs autosave1).
- Really need a cancel button to tell Capis to ditch hopeless projects with missing resources
- Really need a cancel button to stop province construction in case of mistake or materials not available
- Make Congo conference only available to active colonizers. ENG got it while not even colonizing yet. FRA on the other hand was colonizing full speed.
- What happened to the idea of Great Wars to keep GP status? These Great Wars need to stand out.
----> Perhaps they need special newspaper looking events tied to them to make them stand out!
- Introduce decisions with reasonable benefits (-infamy/+prestige etc for Dominions release) - Would be nice to see Canada.
- Late game factory build times need to decline to keep up with POP growth / immigration(how to do so is up to you guys)
- Guards probably shouldn't require Luxury Clothes - They're soldiers after all. (unrealistically limits guard recruitment)

Installed it on fresh new game, with 1.2 patch installed first. Also, a fresh Windows OS.
I get this error whenever I want to start the game...

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

What to do?

What am I missing, anyway? I do have to install any additional program? :/
Some help, please...

Yep the NGF are some tough SOBs. Though why they don't just DoW FRA to form Germany is anybody's guess. They don't even have to DoW. They could've simply added Alsace during one of their defensive wars (where they usually won by -25 score atleast).

On the problem you're having, I have no clue, but like I said, Tech Support is your best bet. But you won't be able to see it till you register your game. EDIT: RRW got there first.

[omissis]

Impressive job and very interesting report, chapeau!
I've got only one suggestion about the industrial firm construction time shortening once the game goes ahead and you need to catch up with industrialization: if the devs think it would be good from a game balance perspective (it could enlarge the gap between smaller and larger nations), they could adapt the "practical knowledge" concept of Hearts of Iron 3 (the more you build, the less it takes, with a time-related value decay).

Ah that's exactly what I had in mind.

Also, the original post is now complete. Enjoy.

Not sure if this is a bug with the patch or the game in general, but I am quite sure this wasn't supposed to happen.

(Last beta, playing as Ireland released on day 1, Pan-British nationalists enforced their demands on South Africa)

I've heard this mentioned before that Ireland and GB switched places. That really shouldn't happen. Was South Africa also released?

One specifically showing this would be helpful I think though maybe the devs would disagree. Can't do any harm anyway. In my present game as Austria I'm not seeing it at all.

I'm currently processing the video of the first year of france on fast forward.
You'll be able to see a starting pop of 8.95 M and a lower pop of 7.94M which rised at the start of december (between 5 and 6) by 0.5M with no reason... finishing at 8.41M after 1 year... so you can imagine the next years...

I'll post the video tomorrow morning if I have time to upload it somewhere...

Edit again... youtube make it ugly... Tomorrow nice one

Do a hands off game with China until 1870 and you'll se it for yourself. It always happens. It's propably also present in your current Austria game. Take a look at some of the bigger nations in Asia and compare the size of their populations to that in 1836.

I know it happened before too, maybe its worse now? After you "civilize" China and industry starts up, people promote to craftsmen very fast. The problem I had then, in earlier patch, was people becoming craftsmen faster than building capacity/time on factories, so very high unemployment. Then at least those with no jobs left i suppose. Might be other reasons tho, but I just wanted to say how it used to be with China earlier, it might be different with this patch, so try this approach now if you can, and see if same thing happens.

I should echo the issue with luxury clothes, I was producing plenty and yet had trouble outfitting a handful of Guard brigades.

Im not sure if the issue is bad prioritization of resources or exccessive requirements to build them, but Id definitely like to see a tweak there before the final patch.

In my case, (25% of the population dead by 1867) China was not civilised, so no craftsmen.

Unemployment is the likely reason for civilised old-world population decline and that and CON are the reason for old world stagnation (unless you get health-care). But uncivs losing population suggests there is also another bug somewhere.

As I said earlier, it's not so much a 'bug' as a side effect of the new mechanic where RGOs fire workers if they're overproducing -> massive unemployment -> massive emigration.

That would be fine if they went somewhere, but thats not it. They massively emigrate into a black hole from what people are reporting. Tooltip screenies in this thread demonstrate the oddity.

Also if the emigration actually occured on this scale and worked correctly, American democracies would be enormous population, and I mean very much over 9000. ;) So theres probably a "population leak" to plug, and then another glance to take at emigration rates in general.

It's not even that they go into a black hole. Maybe they go somewhere. This is what I noticed fast fowarding France (1 year) :
- American countries get a lot of people from France
- population gain is nearly always in the green
- France lost 1M people in 1 year
- There was 0.5M people appearing (pop went from 7.94M to 8.44M in 1 day)
- Overall when looking at province, they nearly all gain people (growth + migration)

Maybe it's linked to the RGO firering ppl, but even so there shouldn't be such strange things as what I saw.

Yes, whether it's a 'bug' or not, it's not realistic for the time period whatsoever, and China's case in particular is just ridiculous. Something needs to be done about it.
