Yea if you want to concentrate on micro the new system is ok, but as I stated in an other tread there are a much better way to do this with much less micro needed..http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=390589

It's just petty Paradox doesn't want to to really improve the spy system.

Captain Jack

I have repeatedly said that there will not be any further automation type changes to the Spy system.

Harping on this will not change anything.

Read point 5 under communicating with the Patch team in the first post in this thread.. This is the last time any Patch Project Team member will comment on WHY the Spy system was changed/and why it was done this way.

All the points in the communication section of post 1 are serious they apply here as they would in any email correspondence with the HOI2 Patch Project team. Any serious violation of them will be reported by me to the proper authorities (as stated in the communication section).

I am sorry if this sounds harsh but i have a project to manage and decisions have to be made... the decision about the spy system has been made ... so lets move on.

Hi son of liberty, are you referring to PHI not building any units issue? If so then I have to assure you that it is know and will be looked at and fixed in 1.3 final ;)
Ok, good.

We can reduce Mexico's spy activities against USA or against all countries if it is too active. Is it so bad as USA player (I did never played with USA)?
It was irritating enough that I payed the dissent to cancel my nap. Now that japan is annexed, I will dow them. I will not pay the 10% dissent for that as I believe I have casus belli:mad: They actually had the balls to try to manipulate global opinion against me twice, now they will get what they want. So i take it you are not a happy US player .. but a happy HOI player because it is more challenging?

That doesn't sound more challenging actually. It sounds like a free gift. Being able to cause Mexico to break your NAP, and then being able to incorporate it into the US, is something akin to leaving 3 armies in Frieberg so that you can cut off the French army on the wrong side of the Maginot line, imo. Something simmilar happens with USA in MP when USA chooses to go PA, and then takes over Latin America in the run up to the war, as a way of gaining territory, and getting the consumer goods bonus all the way through, as well as killing the peacetime_IC_Mod.

We fixed that exploit in the EIR mod.

I am sure it can be worked out, and the system looks like an improvement overall but sounds like it needs tweaking to avoid exploits.

Up to Intel Level 12 and still nothing on countries outside American hemisphere. This might need to be tweaked in final patch.

Or is it because of the 36 US' crappy sliders/tech?

I loaded up as Germany in '38. I had 0% efficiency for anything outside of europe (irrc). I think the distance modifier might be a little too heavy handed, but I still have to play the game through to get a better feel for it. But having no control or ability to spy on a nation of high interest an ocean away is not good.

The only suggetsions I have:

1. Make Iraq a German puppet after a UK surrender (when playing GER I always go for a UK knockout).

2. Cede the British areas in Egypt to Egypt (or maybe to Italy) and make Egypt an Italian puppet upon UK surrender.

3. Make Transjordan an Italian puppet after UK surrender.

4. Create Palestine or Israel as an Italian puppet on UK surrender.

5. Give the Germans the choice to create the puppet states of Flanders and Wallonia without any dissent hit on a UK surrender.

6. Return the rest of Metropolitian France to Vichy and make Vichy a German ally upon a UK surrender and after the possible formation of Wallonia and Flanders.

7. Cancel all UK guarantees upon surrendere and have them leave the Allies and become a member of the Axis.

8. Give Germany the choice of liberating Denmark and Norway as puppets without any dissent his upon a UK surrender.

9. Give Germany the choice of getting back her African colonies.

I think after Level 10 there might need to be some small cumulative bonus toward global espionage.

Just curious, does any nation start with a huge spy network? Maybe USSR?

I don't really know what you mean by this post but if you felt offended I apoligize for that.
My point was that its petty you dont take care of the good ide's better (because I mean that my proposal of the spy system is very very good and will improve the game a lot).
:rolleyes:And the good thing for you is, that all these idea's you recive on this forum is totaly free of charge.... So I don't really understand why you complain, there are not many company's who get the idea's so easily.
But if don't want them we can stop give you them right away.

So again I hope you can excuse my eager to improve this game.

I don't think you're understanding that coreymas is not a Paradox employee and Paradox is not developing this patch. It is a group of people working with source code provided by Paradox and they are restricted from making any significant non-bugfix changes if the patch is going to be free. I'm actually surprised they were allowed made such a major change to the intel system. They probably don't want to make any further major changes even if allowed because they want to get the patch out so that people making non-free mods/expansions using the source code can use it as a base.

Minor changes missed in the change log for the 1936 scenario ai files:

1) All country AI's have convoy build parameters entered into them so that the AI will build convoys.

QUESTION: Will this mean that landlocked countries will build convoys?

2) Many AI's for the very small countries War Value = 0, instead of 1. Haiti, Guatemala and so on.

3) Communist China has a research preference added for "Guerrilla Warfare Doctrine."

4) Denmark Admiral given a bases at 292 and 294. Phillipines Admiral given a base at 1737 (Manila).

5) Naval, land and air doctrines for UK, France, Japan, and Italy AI made more comprehensive, as well as "rocketry" research for UK. German AI set up to include its preference for Land Docs. Same for Soviet.

6) Reinforcement and upgrading values, above default, added to many small minors. Presumably to make them reinforce and upgrade as opposed to build new. Ethiopia set up to reinforce but with low priorities for upgrade.

7) Finnish ai set up to research escort fighters.

8) Manchukou AI set up to research escort fighter.

QUESTION: Is this wise, since I have never seen Manchoukou build any bombers at all, having them research escorts seems strange in that case.

9) Reinforcement and upgrading factors for Soviet Union set to 0, for both in at start 1936 "AI".

Question: Why so drastic? Is this intended to maximize the the Soviet Induestry build from start?

10) Venusuela mountain tech preference removed.

Hiya all,

Just like to say a huge thank you to all the code monkeys who put this together!

One thing I have noted is that the Netherlands do not seem to have any rares to trade until about '37. I usually like to get a good portion of them as Japan, but I was wondering whether they don't have any convoys in this patch or something similar.

Just curious.

Cheers

Many small corrections/changes here and there in DB files and in EXE (the full list of code changes is over 200 items long without the new spy system) are not included into the log.

Gormadoc will answer on your questions in more details when he has time.

9) Reinforcement and upgrading factors for Soviet Union set to 0, for both in at start 1936 "AI".

Question: Why so drastic? Is this intended to maximize the the Soviet Induestry build from start?

In my latest test games with 1.3 beta I noticed that many countries that are supposed to enter the war in Sep. 1939 start upgrading their units from January 1936 - something I never do. IMO it is a lot more logical to use that IC to industry/unit builds and start upgrading about an year before the war. Upgrade will be cheaper (tech. discount, policy) and at the end player will face more units and better challenge in his game against the AI. I suppose this was the reason for the change in USSR settings made by Gormadoc. Since I'm not a modder I have no idea about how practical is to apply this change to more countries (UK, GER and FRA for example) so I'll leave that discussion and decision to the community/modders.
