I find the US fun because a) I'm an American and b) there is no preset path to victory. Play as Germany, and you will find yourself attacking Poland, then the low countries, then France. Play as the USSR, you will find yourself defending against Germany. As the US, however, there is no set road to take - moreoever, if you steel yourself a bit and wait until Dec 41 to join the allies (or until attacked by the Axis), you have to come up with a solid plan to influence the war quickly. I always play semi historically (I have around 15 divisions at the end of '41) and its fun trying to stave off the Japenese in the Pacific while also trying to get the Western Allies into Europe with limited available military resources. Alot of times the game is pretty far gone - one game Germany had over 1000 IC's and had taken all big 3 cities and was only missing Magnitorisk for the bitter piece, and we had a Yank/Kraut throwdown in Western and Eastern Europe. Other times its a race to Berlin before the big red bear gets there first. There's rarely any threat to the North American continent but I still have a blast trying to remake the world map after 3 years of fighting have gone by.
