UK is not so bad. France and Poland are bad to play because you probably will get steamrolled unless you are an awesome player...

Try a game as Switzerland.

Playing France is great! It's quite a challenge and it's not that hard to stop the germans (ai)... but it's harder to make a counter attack, I give you that.

Yea but then it gets boring because like you said, you its hard to advance on them so you get a pretty static front line.

I wouldn't really put Italy or Japan in front of the U.S. I mean it's pretty much impossible to lose as them. And why on earth have you put UK in the list of worst 5? It's so easy to push the Italians out of the med and there is no way the german AI will ever attempt sealion.

I really like playing romania, it is a challenge but you still have quite good resources. Another nice country is Sweden, try helping the Fins against russia...

Worst country.. well, Axis Saudi-Arabia was not that easy ;)

Another bad country: Portugal when the Allies declare war on you in 1936 for meddling a little TOO much in the Spanish Civil War. Oops...

Well, I tried playing Tannu Tuva once. It's hard because if you unless you depend entirley on the Russians, your guys just die. I would recommend a country thats got allies or is strong enough to play on its own for awhile.

The USA is the absolute best nation in the whole game.

What other nation can take on the whole freaking world at once and still come out on top?

Best Nations

1. SU
2. Germany
3. France
4. Turkey
5. Sweden

France is, as somebody said, a great nation to play. By continuing the Maginot line to the English channel you can stop the german AI. Then build up your strength and kick ass in Africa, Italy and the Balkans. When Germany bits the dust on their eastern front you can strike right into their Father land from the, often undefended, south.

Dont know if this is Core related or just 1.06 ...when the germans advance to belgium you will loose all your fortifications on your extended line due to an event.
My pick is

1. germany
2. SU
3. France
4. Sweden
5. Spain

I have never excperienced that in my games as France but that was in 1.05c. I do not think I have tried in 1.06.

Feh, you major players as your countries with huge IC, I play as minors and they can be just as fun! Siam, Argentina, either of the Spains, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Persia and Iraq can be fun to play. As for Majors I do play as them, I just finished a great game as the French (it was basically what Elbasto said but I made a French Anzio and eventually annexed Italy and slowly worked my way up through Austria) and China, Italy and Japan are fun to. I can really see how the US is any fun, where's the challenge in being the most powerful country in the world?

BEST
1. UK
2. Italy
3. Japan
4. Hungary (try to reform Austria-Hungary)
5. Germany (Very nice but not as fun as the others)

There are other nice ones like Romania, Bulgaria, SU and Nationalist China

I agree Semi-Lobster It isn't really all that fun if you have huge IC and Manpower and have years to research pretty much the whole tree. Taking on the world is nigh on impossible as Jopi found out in his AAR. You just don't have enough manpower

OK without starting another thread I'll repose another question here.

What mindset or goals do you set for a particular country?

E.G. Hungary trying to reunite with Austria. Or Perhaps Persia trying to gain control of Iraq.

I'm trying to decide what to play next after my Mexico AAR. I've already 'won' as Germany and was conquering the world as Russia before I got tired of waiting 2 months to march troops all over Asia (700 divisions is a little too much to control).
