Sad to hear that it hasn't worked out.

Yeah using the same species trick is probably best.

I hope someone might create a mod for this. Maybe with the publicity from the film and series enough people are interested. Feel like even with the stuff that's in game someone could create something amazing.

Definitely doable. The galactic community can be used very effectively in the context of a feudal empire full of squabbling and plotting vassals to a central power.

It could be amplified by employing the NPC faction mechanics as well.

Very doable.

Hey everyone, question:

Is there any way to see on the map who's in the empire and whom isn't?

I just proclaimed the Imperium, and I turn red as the imperial core... ok.

Then the council members turn red too.

But the rest of the factions just stay their own normal colour.

When I click on the Imperium icon, i guess everybody is in the Imperium, but I'm not sure, there are a lot of factions.

So how does this work? How are non-members indicated, so I know whom to target for an Imperial Crusade?

Do I get a notification if someone drops out maybe? Is the reason why I received no notifications at all the fact that everyone is in the Imperium already?

Sadly Stellaris is too shallow for that kind of setting.

We should have more character focus, factions etc. I waited for years and Stellaris still don't have internal politics. Really disappointing.

I made some dune roleplay empires long ago. not sure how long, but I remember habitat start was still not possible without mods, so I got a mod so I could give the guild a habitat start.

in my case I chose to make different dune factions seperate empires instead of one feudal empire. in dune the different factions have quiet some autonomy, their own interest, goals and plans, etc. for example the robotics focus of IX is because they're somewhere at the fringes of the empire so they can get away with making their own rules.
and for example no one, except the bene tleilax themselves, quiet knows what goes on on the bene tleilax home planet.
and the factions fight among eachother.

also, in dune humans never encountered aliens as they spread to different planets (well, till maybe in the later books, but quiet vague/mysterious still). so that also doesn't really fit the stellaris setting that well. so I chose to roleplay from a similar starting timepoint as in dune, with humans already spread out and the empire existing, just different factions battling it out as empires. I also took a bit of liberty with the portraits, since I didn't want them all to look like humans. fremen are the klingon-looking humanoids, bene gesserit normal humans, bene tleilax (primary race) the blue humanoids, facedancers the chameleon-looking reptillian, and the guild a more fish-looking portrait.

I did not make all factions though, I focussed on the ones I find most interesting: the guild, the bene gesserit, the bene tleilax, IX, the fremen. I think I may have made an atreides and harkonnen empire too?
the bene tleilax I have multiple versions of, since that's my favorite faction in dune, so that was the empire I played myself. obviusly go for genetic ascension each time. ethics for bene tleilax is a bit complex I think, and depends if you base it only on the original trilogy, or also on the later books from the original author. I used that later info and made my bene tleilax xenophobic spiritualists (and maybe I had authoritarian as 3rd civic?), with syncretic evolution and the 2nd species called face dancers (primary species masheikh).

I was especially pleased how my fremen-empire worked out played by the AI, they wound up going psionic ascension as one of the first ai empires in the galaxy each time. I think I made them spiritualist and militarist, and very strong on the pops.

also, in later games where I only had a few of my dune factions spawn and took a bit more liberties with my own empire, I roleplayed an empire that arose out of the scattering, which explained why there were other alien species. for example I played empires consisting of facedancers (without tleilaxu masters).

I'd likely go Aristocratic Elite, rather than Feudal. Since feudal is worthless, and Nobles still keeps the Noble Houses thing.

I'd take non-fanatic Spiritualist due to the Bene Gesserit, and especially since Zro and Spice are pretty much identical. Also because of the previous Machine wars (trynna remember the name... Butlerian Jyhad?).

Yep you’re right. I went for authoritarian, militaristic and xenophobe but I should have gone for spiritualist as the third one.

In the end I made the galaxy full of noble houses, names borrowed from all sorts of lore, I must say it’s very interesting when you see stuff like “House Atreides rivaled House Harkonnen”, it ads a punch that you don’t have with random alien races :)

So it’s not bad.

I wish I could rename the human subspecies tho, and them still be considered human

Wouldn't mind seeing some kind of Bene Gesserit or Jedi Order added to the GC. Special Psionic Envoys that enforce the will of the Council.
I thought this so many times during my playthrough... how great would it be if we had more imperial charter-type resolutions or more galactic institutions.

And as always, I wish the devs open up the name lists in-game, where we can edit the name of everything. From armies to titles
