Playing TO and need to get rid of a junky Hochmeister, a bit gamey but i'm the one playing. I assigned him to a general and put him in charge of an army. It seems like they only ever die when sieging a fort and never in battles or assaulting a fort. What's a good way to actually kill him?

You usually lose them in really nasty battles with bad odds against you. Assault a fort multiple times with few soldiers and he'll be dying soon.

Assault many many forts. They will die.. eventually. It is quite a fail safe way of offing them. Of course, in EU3, nothing is a guaranteed success.

I'm not sure but I think stationing him in a tropical province (if you have one) will increase the chances of him dying too. He doesn't need to fight.

From a personal experience, I'm not so sure about this. I put pretty much all of my kings in charge of doomstacks, and I assault like a motherf***er by default. My kings still have an average lifespan of 20 years.

Also, try and station him leader of an army in a province where there will be attrition.

All kings in EU3 are super marathon swimmers. I have seen one swim to Denmark from the Hawaiian coast!

couldn't you just put him with 1k troops on a cog and let attrition destroy the ship

One of the weirdest things I discovered when playing my first games is that Generals/Admirals are not killed when their army/navy is wiped off the map. They can also teleport to any point on the map you control. I try now to keep them 'attached' to a unit to make thing a bit more 'natural'. Annoying thing is that I've read somewhere that they are more likely to die aboard a ship or high attrition province and they are too bloody expensive to actually put them on a ship so that I take some liberty with this.

Actualy, from patch 1.3 on you loose admirals if you loose fleet. But not generals though.

The losing admirals thing is annoying when I'm exploring with an explorer and get into a war and forget about him and you get a message about losing a ship. But it's ok the general on board though can swim back.
