Caveat; I can't stand Nazis, and seriously dislike all those "Panzerblut" Whermacht if only excusers.

That apart best Tank on number built and kills inflicted ratio is probably the Tiger I, someone can give the actual figures.

Number built about 1,300
Number lost in combat ?
Kills inflicted ?

And leave out the Gulf Wars where allied tanks were ridiculously way ahead.

Then again Israeli Centurions anyone.

Hmmm, that was a vague answer. :p

I answered the weapon issue on another thread and got beat, raped and set on fire for it. I don't care to relive that here.

Nothing happened at work. I had to send 3 people home for being bad. Other then that, no, nothing wrong.

Never, never, never buy a car that was assembled on a Monday. I promise, you'll have it in the dealers every other week for something going wrong. This is not just an GM issue. Fridays are not bad. People are usually in a great mood and their attitudes are much better, so they'll notice quicker if they screwed up. Since they can be fired if they purposely damage or mess up, they are much more likely to identify and correct the problem. Unless of course, they are assembling cars (trucks) in Flint. Never buy from there. This is OLD union. They are the ones that think that they are Gods chosen ones. A bunch of 50 year old bodies with 12 year old minds (for all the 12 year olds out there, I'm sorry for this blatant insult).

Not by everyone. Steel, I and others were quite happy to listen to your explanations so chin up. And thanks.

CDat: I buy your explanations, both here and in the other thread, even though they do differ. It does happen to be the only available thing that makes any sense, but it does, and that's enough for me.

My first thread here was before I went up north and e-mailed Ft. Knox Armor School. It was a best guess. The reply there was after (names were changed to protect my @ss).

So which aircraft shoot the poor tank?

Also, would a non DU round have penetrated it? (Say, a 23mm, or 30mm AA gun?)

The Apache has a 30 mm gun as well AFAIK, so they're still around even if the A10's were phased out.

Yeah, but
a) the A-10 gun is a different beast, it is much longer and really made to penetrate MBT
b) the orginal post said 35mm.

Maybe it was a typo? :)

a. I wouldn't know, so I'll take your word for it.
b. Where did you see that? I can't remember reading that it should have been a 35 mm round, but since the discussion is going on in different threads I'm getting a bit confused myself.

The original post was a conjecture. The gun on the A-10 is really one of the few things its size that can penetrate the armor on a tank. The Apache gun is the same calibre, but that's like saying a .45-70 rifle and a M1911 .45 fire the same ammunition. ;)

And as far as I know, the A-10 has another 10+ years in the arsenal.

Service Life

The original service life of the A/OA-10 was 8,000 hours, equating to approximately to FY2005. The revised service life was projected out to 12,000 hours, equating to approximately FY2016. The most recent long range plan has the A/OA-10 in the fleet through FY2028, which equates to approximately 18,000-24,000 hours.

quoted from: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/a-10.htm

And, I wouldn't be too surprised if the A-10 even sees service after 2028. But yeah, I don't think it's going away anytime soon. Don't worry about it.
