It shows how the M1 pwns
2080 and counting

Please lets focus on the content of the thread. I'd hate to see this thread end up in OT land. I'm digging up some old master gunner tests from Ft. Knox that we used to use to test for vehicle recognition. Mayhap I'll post them here to see who could be the next generation's master gunner. ;)

Well, it shows that the M1 pwns outdated rustbuckets designed in the mid 70's... :p

Mr.Penguin

This thread goes in cycles. 1st we get some WW2 tanks, then into more modern, then into some Desert Storm talk and Iraqi armament, then into some random chatter, and presto it starts over again. :p

cdat must be congratulated... I would have thought this thread would have died long ago, but alas this is the 'Wolverine' of this Post 1819 Forum...(Sorry for the X-Man pun, I just took my sons to see the third installment, I actually enjoyed it...)

Oh, BTW, the M1A2 sucks donkey balls in Hell for beer money. The M1A1 is better.

What is this "money" that you speak of?

Wrong buckeroo. I was on one in the mid 80's so it must have been designed earlier. ;)

You are right, a quick search say that the first M1A1 entered service in 1985, but the point is that there was alot of differences between the bacis M1 and the M1A1, like the gun (M68A1 105mm vs Rheinmetall 120mm) and upgrades to the armor...

Btw, the T-72M that was the mainstay of the Iraqi heavy armor enter service in 1976...

T-72 was a 60's design, which means it was built for 50's warfare. The design itself is pretty fair, its the application and how many varients you can get of the same basic design that messes everything up. But I dont really have to state that again do I? :p

Well, of course I'm right. If I weren't, that'd mean I wasn't real. A figment of your imagination. Imagine, your brain just might have conjured me up!

There should be once a really large tank battle (of course, not with real munition but the most accurate laser simulation munition as possible) to where every nation shall be allowed to send 10 tanks and there best crews possible. Something like a Tank-WM, if you want so...

Somewhere in a quite far away place, I would prefer Sibiria, because it still gets you good hidding possibilities. There shall be a "field" in which you're able to move, something like 200km*200km maybe. Every team will start at one point on "the map", so that they can organize first. Except map knowledge, they won't get any further help to find the enemy. They will have pointed something like 3-5 "refull" points on the map (one of them beeing their startposition) on which they can aquire new muniton and petrol, as long as they are not under attack(those stocks should be either in "neutral" bunker zones or delivered by "administrative helicopters".

Of course, you can bet on those kind of battles (which team is eliminated first /who beats the most other tanks / most successfull crews / countries who kill most of other tanks etc. ) so that the costs of this funny game could be paid ;)

Anyone interested? :D

No, no, no. Disregard all after: 'Those saw service'. The units (Marines and a few back @$$wards Army units) took them to the Gulf but then whined and complained that they couldn't FIGHT in them. Oh no, not that. So, those units were given some M1's to fight with. Sorry punk @$$ed pussies.
So the description should be "they were shipped to the Gulf, were parked there for a while, but then the USA couldn't be bothered to ship them all the way back again, so looked to see if someone would take them"?

Though I'm not sure about this, but I doubt tanks would work in the Siberian weather or any Arctic climate. Too cold and all the fluid inside the tank would freeze up, causing complete tank breakdown. :(

Plz correct me if im wrong. :)

It actually can become quite hot in Sibiria as well. I've just happened to look at a documentary in TV, here's the link (don't worry, lot's of pictures in it, easy to understand)

http://www.zdf.de/ZDFde/inhalt/8/0,1872,2095656,00.html

North of sibiria: Long winters (up to 8 months) and only short summer, temperatures only going up to 10C..

Southern part of sibiria (where, for example, the Sibirian Railroad crosses, plus most of the industry are.. besides that, flown from Europe to China? That's the route you're flying over... does look quite green, even in October :) )
the weather is more like in Norway. Longer winters for sure, but in summer it becomes easy up to 30C, and that for a few months, and you can get a lot of sunshine as well. I'm more placing that tank battle in summer there... I guess I'll have to call Putin, good he's a excellent german speaker :D
