I don't know about you guys but my favorite thing that I spotted from today's WWW was when Dan assigned 5 troops to a front line and they immediately jumped on a transport ship and started sailing.

I've gone back and played Hoi III recently and now trying to use that games naval supply/convoy/transport system is almost intolerably painful compared to what I can see on these streams.

The new system also makes more sense. As supreme leader (or whatever your title) you should be directing the nation by assigning troops to their destination, not selecting the individual transport mechanism for getting them there. Let the chain of command below you coordinate the logistics (and let you know if you need to build more ___ ).

I think one of the key things this new system will address is AI naval invasions. I've noticed in the past games (HoI and others) that trying to get the AI to preform a competent naval invasion is a hard thing to do. Having a system like this in place should make it easier to code the AI to do a proper job of it.

Also, still wondering about transports, in the Amphibious DD it says you can assign more escorts in case an enemy fleet sorties so how do you attach more escorts specifically to your invasion convoy or as in my previous question if I am transporting troops from say Britain to Singapore how do I protect that entire route with even by RN standards a small fleet for such a long route?

Indeed it is much easier and better however I still have the question above regarding transporting over more vast expanse's than just from Taiwan to the coast of China. If I want to move troops from UK to Singapore and Japanese and German Sub's are all over the place I don't have the naval capacity to cover every Sea Zone the transports will travel through so can I or how would I assign escorts specifically for this troop convoy (Not Invasion) as I really do not want to see my 5x Marine Divisions or such sank because I cannot cover every zone they will go through unless from what I know now I keep moving a fleet ahead of the convoy to a new zone it would seem.

Same goes for transporting them over the Atlantic as I'd hate to see all of my Armored/Mech/Mot divisions get sunk on a convoy to Britain from the US because I don't have enough ships to completely flood every sea zone with ships and still carry out Fleet actions in the Pacific. Otherwise it's not really a convoy but a group of transports alone in a specific sea province while my combat ships are spread out in the zone hunter submarines giving a much higher chance for the transports to be caught out alone without support nearby.

It'll certainly be harder to move stuff over very long distances compared to the fleet mechanics in HOI3, since you cannot discretely protect your transports.

That said, anything that allows for the AI to even start to use naval invasions in a meaninful way is a huge bonus.

I do appreciate the drop in micro for navies too. Not better, but it appeals to my lazy nature.

This is my concern too - say I want to do a Torch or Guadalcanal landing, I haven't seen in the game mechanics a way to cover the convoys without a lot of fiddly manual micro-ing of fleets as they follow the counters in real-time. The alternative is to leave elite invasion troops potentially unprotected from submarine or surface raider attack (which pretty much no-one did during WW2). We'll see, I guess.

Maybe we can assagin navy units to invasion plans. That would be the bes solution. Also this ships than can give AA cover and heavy arty support at the landing site.

I'd like if we could assign naval units to convoys as well (every nation that ran convoys did it, after all), but invasion fleets would be a good start :). As both are tracked on the map, I suspect it's something we may see in the future if we're lucky. It may be a case that it was a bit tricky getting convoy raiding working in the current naval warfare model if transports had escorts from the get-go, or something like that? That's just a random guess though. I can't imagine they didn't think of it.
