Best start ever?

Morning All. So I start as England and weirdly France haven't set me as a rival, instead it is Burgundy, Aragon and Denmark. I make my normal requests for royal marriages and alliances with Castille, Portugal, Savoy and Austria. All get accepted.

No more than 2 months into the game and Austrias monarch dies and I get a PU over them! France aren't happy at all and declare war. This leads to France versus pretty much the entirety of Europe. In the end I ended up winning the war with 100% warscore, France ceded all province cores to me, gave Dauphine to Provence, Narbonne and Languedoc to Aragon (who got pulled in with an alliance to Portugal), I also got given the three territories around Paris. Thanks France, really great start and my eyes looking towards Scotland (who France had to drop their guarantee with).

Anyone had anything similar?

Sounds awesome. If you want to springboard into even more victory, try to meet the requirements for, then take the "Force Union on France" mission, PU France then reconquest the cores that they shouldn't have lost when giving up land.

Boom, big blue attack dog and Austria at your side.

Thats great advice, thanks. Although they absolutely despise me now!

I've only ever got about 40 years into a game before becoming a little frustrated so hoping I can play this one to the end.

Not at the beginning of the game, but before 1530 I had managed to successfully PU Castille, Savoy and Portugal as England. I also got the occupy Paris mission, which after a few savescumming attempts I managed to do.

You're indeed very lucky. Though you might want to keep in mind that a non-emperor Austria is a lot weaker than you may be used to.

I havent yet completed a full playthrough. Tried a few countries like Castille, France etc. and got a little frustrated. Tried England and this has happened, I'm uite looking forward to another 20 or 30 years tonight taking Scotland and Ulster whilst solidifying my alliances in Europe. Once I've taken the British Isles, I will again turn towrds France, but this could be about 50 years away.

God I love this game.
