It seems rather difficult to find pieces of advice as possible about warfare for Europa Universalis IV.
So, this topic could be a place where everyone could give their best practices.

I begin.

BEFORE A WAR
* Plot with your neighbourgs to make them allies or neutral and involve your ennemy's ennemies.
* Exchange military accesses with your ally/ies.
* If your are a defender, send your troops on ennemy's claims to defend them first.
* Support ennemy's rebels.
* Maximize your military maintenance.
* Define your ennemy/ies as Rival.
* Deploy your units in a way each of them is adjacent to another one.
* Consolidate your armies.
* Avoid army composition mistakes like having too many cavalries in a stack.
* Ensure you have upgraded your units to the maximum.
* Recruit mercenaries for your infantery and use regular troops for cavalry and artillery.

DURING WAR TIME
* Focus on the war objective.
* Fire your administrative and diplomatic advisor if you run low on cash.
* Make as many loans as necessary if your survival is at stake.
* Send your mercenaries first into battles.
* Recruit as many mercenaries as possible if your survival is at stake.
* Retreat a battle if you see you are going to lose.
* Siege with your mecernaries first in order to reduce manpower depletion.
* Propose separate peace deals to minor countries in ennemy's alliance.
* Drag other countries against your ennemy/ie.
* Send a reconnaissance patrol behind your ennemy line to see his unit deployment beyond the fog of war.
* Avoid terrain malus when attacking.
