Johan has said repeatedly that historical events are still in, they just have more conditions. I don't doubt that early historical events will still fire properly most of the time, as the AI will be set up to try and reach the condiitons.

I suspect the Castille/Aragon will have something like

In the AI file, probably yes, but ...

As a player nation (either one), the player will have to actually work for this outcome; it won't just plop into their lap.

You know, I think one of my first few games will be as some minor German country with FOW turned off, not doing much of anything active but just watching how the game runs with a truly historical player.

It's a small world, MrT, far away is never far away enough with Peter Ebbesen around. :D

As for historical events such as the most notable of them - inheritances - if the player works for them and the AI is geared towards working for them, and this system works, we will see powers such as Austria and Spain as much on the rise as before - but they will probably have to go the historical path which will damage other critical aspects (such as technology, prestige, finances) and hurt them badly in the later part of the game.

In EUII, Austria inherits hungary, all of it, in 1540s, but fact is it all ended for medieval Hungary with the battle of Mohacs, in 1526, when the Turks defeated them and took about 3/5 of Hungary turning it into the Buda Pashalik. Austria quickly gobbled up the rest. This link tells the whole history of the partition of medieval Hungary.

But since it was such a disaster and it all started with the fall of Belgrade in 1521, methinks it is important to give Hungary and any would-be conqueror of it a hand in this particular inheritance event.

I very much hope they will not include that event, both ottomans and habsburgs were occupying us, and in this game where NO historical events are included, it could very well happen that not Ottos and Habs are our neighbours.
Also in EU2 it was made very awfull, all to Habsburgs, even if Hungary was quite powerfull, and defeated Ottos, noone even mentioned the correct borders (and those borders seem not to be recreatable in EU3 too),
noone mentioned the recreated Transylvania (yes, becouse before this event it was PART of hungary)

And they fully forgot Thököly (blue with red borders on the map):

Still don't know where you got that. There are historical events. They are just more flexible and have more triggers. So a weak Austria might indeed be unlikely to inherit Hungary.

ahem, why insisting on that dam inheritance event???
with that possibility, i also demand 'inheritance' events for habsburg, ottoman, moldavian, and wallachian nations!

PS: i hope NOW you undeerstand why im not happy making ANY inheritance events, i dont want those for hungary nor for any other nation. 'Inheritance' can be made by diplomacy or war!

Experience tells me that EU III will probably handle inheritance in some form each of the following ways:

-peaceful inheritance and annexation for AI nations (game over for inherited)
-disputed inheritance leading to a war between AI nations
-peaceful inheritance of an AI nation by a human player (game over for inherited)
-disputed inheritance of an AI nation by a human player leading to war
-an inheritance of a player's country by an AI nation, which would certainly be disputable.

In addition to all these options/strategic choices, as it has been described inheritance in EU III will be both a result and function of diplomacy since you have to meet multiple triggers and conditions- even more choices to make, and decisions in a strategy game is rarely a bad thing.
