I'm playing my first time on DH and went with Japan. Played HOI2 a ton many years back so not a total noob.

I've got the Chinese surrender event, and have the choice of going with a puppet, taking the north, or taking the coast. What's the best option here? A fourth option is just to annex the entire country which is what I always did in HOI2 Doomsday.

I remember in Doomsday if you puppeted China it would spam a totally unrealistic amount of divisions and make the rest of the game far too easy. Does the same happen on DH? Because I'd wish to avoid this if it does.

This is no longer the case in DH, because China gets transformed into China-Nanjing, which is not... the most useful of puppets, to put it like that. At least not from what I have seen the AI doing with its armies. That is, just sitting on its ass.

Then again, if you take military control over them (which you should be doing), you get a lot of cannon fodder. Which is almost essential for going up against the USSR should you choose to go that route.

Well I'm hoping I'll be able to take the USSR on without having my army bolstered by hundreds of unrealistic Chinese divisions. When I clicked general mobilisation while fighting China I had like 7000 manpower - more than I could ever use for sure.

Is there any bad consequences later down the road for just annexing China and ignoring the peace event completely?

I often just go for puppeting china-nanjing since this China doesn't give away any cores and wil most often use there army for rebel suppresion. And gives not a unrealistic but still decent army to use as cannon fodder.
