The fifth empire portugal national spirit is nice, but what's even better is crusade against democracy + the immense potential manpower of carlist spain due to being able to core portugal and potentially brazil from portugal, and then also france.

It works for the purposes of this thread, which is to look at national spirits in a vacuum, but I would say that nonaligned Germany's are worse for the simple fact that to access them you have to cut your entire economy in half for a while first, putting you way further behind than you would normally be in terms of industry and production. Even when you finish the civil war, a lot of your factories are destroyed and the ones you lost and regained lost all their efficiency so you're producing equipment way slower than before the civil war.
