I doubt that's why it was called Vanilla. I'm going to stick with my old reasoning.

It is. Vanilla means 'plain' or 'unflavoured (i.e. no modifications)'. It has no relation to sex, though that link uses the 'vanilla' term in the same context (i.e. standard, no frills, no changes).

As for me, I play my own modification (modding to my little hearts content) and my own modification on the WATK map (superior to MyMap last I checked).

I also dally with AGCEEP basic.

Without plugging my own not-quite-a-mod, the AI Project (oops...) I think the best one is the Builders' Paradise - BP AI one.
