I am currently in the middle of, simply put, the best game of HOI I have ever played against the AI.

Playing as UK, hard/aggressive, I am up to Oct 1940, and totally challenged on all fronts in what seems to be a very realistic simulation of WW2.

My air force is in tatters, the massed bombers of the Luftwaffe fly daily over England, my convoys are being decimated, the Germans are still massed on the coast, and it is only the RN which is keeping them at bay. In North Africa, it is a last ditch defense outside El Alamein, where I have had to rely on my Victory or Valhalla button, and my single tank division as a mobile reserve, while the expeditionary forces from the Commonwealth slowly trickle in to shore up the defense.

IC, money and supplies are a permanent headache, and the first US Lend Lease was a God send. The nice-to-haves on the production queue just aren't getting built - you know, destroyers, radar stations etc., and yes, I am turning to the Home Guard to man the beaches.

I think I have turned the corner, as the U-Boat kill count slowly rises, and my army slowly develops.

It has been an enthralling game. Thanks AOD Developers - this is a terrific enhancement. :)

I just gave up on Hoi3 and is expecting a great experience with AoD. Even though Hoi3 has everything it lacks a clever AI and also is unstable beyond what can be acceptable for a 1.3 patch game. Maybe some day......

Just som initial reflections on AoD playing Germany from 1939, if anyones read this.
1. Why are all my generals late for work? Is there a german option for officer-purge, this is not acceptable.
2. Is there any way I could change the colors of the provinces because they are too colorful for my taste, Hoi3 look alot nicer and I read on the forum that the map will not be changed.
3. Why are all resource stockpiles almost empty in 1939, surely Germany was a little better prepared for war, even it was a lot less than would have been necessary to win.

You mean the clock? That's a known bug.

Yes - look on the modding forum.

Its realistic but you can always increase the output of your provinces or cheat some ressources.

I'm loving playing the game as Japan (so far my only game... still going on ;)) China is a good fight if you don't spam... conquered in 1940 ( modded the event to give released NatChi a rump state split with a larger Inner Mongolia controlling the north and Yunnan the west (I really don't think the Japs would be willing to have a strong unified NatChi 'puppet'...)

Now I'm getting ready to go after the SU and much later the allies (imo the path Japan could take if they win in China, after all they got a bone to pick with Zhukov :D)

Thanks Amallric.
The map modding tool does seem a bit time consuming. Is there any ready made map that does not change the game, just one that looks nicer? There is a mentioning of an E3 map but also that it does not work with AoD.

Agree, the AI is a great change.

I am in August 1940 as Republican Spain which joined the allies.

Germany did not invade Czechoslovakia

Allies did not care enough to respond when Germany DOWed Poland.

France eventually declared war in early 1940. Germany held the front while annexing Denmark. The Soviet Union DOWed Norway (UK ally) around the same time.

Germany AI managed to get Romania, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Portugal to join it early (March->May 1940)... I wasn't expecting that so had almost no divisions at home to counter Portugal, who are yet to be fully annexed.

France is now on the point of being overrun (last Paris defenders routed), so I am rushing all my units back to the Pyrennees.

"Nofog" shows Germany has 60+ air units (UK has only 20)! Italy has 90 divisions and a navy of about 80 including 5 battleships.

China is holding out with a quarter of it's provinces, and Japan has 200 divisions and 5 carriers already. Japan's combat efficiency (kills:losses) is at nearly 250%.

japan never builds carriers, it alwasy stays at 5

when i loaded as japan they had a great number of infantry and air units in the building queue but NO naval. seems a bit strange. So i deleted some inf and put 5 carriers, some lights and a few BB in the queue, reloaded as germany again and 2 years later they were finished giving japan 10 carriers 4 light carriers and 10 BB. Although USA has 20 carriers and 24 BB:rofl:.

3. Vou need to do what gemany did, trade for resources. If you don't like to do it yourself, use the autofunction it doesn't get you the best deals but it gets the job done.

OK. It seems to be manageable but a bit tight in the beginning.
