I have been under the impression for a long time that interceptors were the best planes for air superiority. I thought they had the highest air attack and the shortest range. Escorts had the lowest air attack, but the best range. And fighters somewhere in between. Is this wrong? If it is I see no reason not to have an all fighter air force as Germany. Well, except for bombers of course. I have been building all interceptor air forces and smacking around the RAF very badly. But I guess it cannot hurt to be even better.

ok,

interceptors...intercept bombers (who wouldve guessed that interceptors intercept???)

fighters fight other fighters (who wouldve guessed that fighters fight???)

escorts...escort. honestly, ur fucking retarded if u dont know that one. i can understand the other 2 but...

interceptors also get a +50% bonus when fighting if theres enemy bombers

fighters have more range

escorts are brigades and are VITAL

edit: fighters only have a range advantage.

... fighters fight other fighters (who wouldve guessed that fighters fight???)

... fighters have more defense (interceptors dish out more but recieve far far more)

Do they?

1938 Fighter:

model = { # Basic Multi-Role Fighter - 0
airdetectioncapability = 3
surfacedefence = 7
airdefence = 4
airattack = 9
}

1937 Interceptor:

model = { # Basic Interceptor - 2
airdetectioncapability = 2
surfacedefence = 6
airdefence = 5
airattack = 9
}

=============================================

1940 Fighter:

model = { # Improved Multi-Role Fighter - 1
airdetectioncapability = 6
surfacedefence = 8
airdefence = 6
airattack = 12
}

1940 Interceptor:

model = { # Improved Interceptor - 3
airdetectioncapability = 4
surfacedefence = 7
airdefence = 7
airattack = 12
}

Interceptors have more Defense.

so then why do they exist? other than range i see no advantage
Range can be critical, especially for certain theatres (eg: the Pacific). Also, Fighters have much better Soft and Hard attack values (which allows you to XP-up the Air units and Leaders by strafing), and better Naval spotting and NAV-strike ability.

Multi-Role Fighters are... Multi-Role. Interceptors are not.

My interceptors keep the channel clear and achieve local air superiority to strafe, mostly in N. Africa or the Soviet Union. Since Air Bases are cheap and you can overpower enemy air power to keep from having to repair, where small air base size would matter, interceptors look like the way to go. I don't use escorts much if any at all. I wipe the enemy air force out first, or just send my interceptors in with the bombers.

Range is a crucial factor in all theatres except for Europe because there's so many nearby airbases. Also you have to remember that in order to upgrade your interceptors to level 8 you need to research and upgrade them through the level 6-7 rocket interceptors, which are totally worthless and cost a lot in IC days and research time to upgrade.

Although I prefer fighters myself, the difference in range is not as crucial as it might look. Only 1 province of a region needs to be in range and your interceptors will fly over the whole region, even if some provinces are too far. Ofcours this is also true for fighters and other aircraft.

IMO fighters are the best bang for your buck for Germany if you're only going to build one type (in order to maximize tech slots and IC). Germany needs the defense against bombers to be sure, but what they also need is air cover for advancing columns. INTs just have such short range that they are behind the front lines quickly. That said, if you wish to spend the IC and tech slots on two types, INT are great, but they're at the best on air superiority over your homeland.
