It is a very, very in-depth alternate history about France doing better in WW2. It does a lot to dispel many legends about the German and French armies and tactics.

If you like WW II sea action the many great Alexander Fullerton books! Or the Douglas Reeman books! Both authors are very good!

I'm a huge fan of Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. While it's not primarily a book about the war (it has a present day timeline as well, though I believe the WW2 plot takes up more than half the book), it's still one of my favorite novels of all time. If you liked The Imitation Game, it's an absolute must-read.

Oh, I like this book, too. Lawrence Waterhouse, he was brilliant mathematician.

I found Len Deighton's fiction novels, 'Bomber' and 'Goodbye Mickey Mouse', very good reads about the air war, and both are surprisingly moving.

I'd also recommend an American novel, 'Once an Eagle' by Anton Myrer, another of my favourites. This one covers more than just one war but it is again, deeply moving. I read that book over 30 years ago and it made a very powerful and lasting impression on me. Even the inter-war story is interesting.
