Playing as the Dauphin, I was happily ignoring the rest of the world as the Hundred Years War played out. Afterwards, I started to look at the rest of the world and...saw that by 1460 Byzantium had grown into a six-province nation, largely at the expense of the Ottoman empire! Considering I've played Byzantium before and not done nearly as well I'd love to have seen how they did it...alas, I missed it. Fantasy events weren't on, it was simply luck.

The Ottomans soon invaded Byzantium again and by 1470 they were down to two provinces, one having revolted; by 1500 they were gone entirely, conquered by Ak Konylu - so it was a short-lived renaissance.

Still, it was amazing to see Byzantium do well. Poland, France or Austria, sure - but Byzantium?

So, what countries have you seen perform absurdly well?

In my last game the Seljuk Turks declare independance from Venice in 1450 and grew to 7 provinces 40 years later. Byzantium had driven the Ottomans out of Europe and vassalized them.
Quite unusual. :)

Were you playing from a CK game? I didn't know the Seljuks had a country code. Where do they revolt from?

Having the Cumans pop up in the 1400's was just strange. I'm very glad it was fixed.

I've seen a >10 province Bulgaria to eat up Ottoman empire. They revolted from Otto's in 1450's and before 1500 OE was no more. That I would call amazingly bad performance. From Otto's.

Most of the over-performing small AI-countries I have seen, got large by receiving several revolting provinces from neighbors. It is very seldom to see them do well on their own merit.

I have seen a >10 provinces Courland once - happily getting gifts from a very big revolting Poland ;). From there they stood their own, and actually grew a little more.

In one game (me as the Turks), Spain collapsed and Portugal got 5 or so provinces, Andalucia, Catalonia, NAvare and one other went independent. Portugal annexed the lot, and then annexed Spain.

I once saw Albania get very big, i think they got something like 12 provs, quite strange since Albania is the poorest province in Europe and perhaps also in northern Africa and the middle-east.

another time i saw an incredibly great Navaho, they had most whole Mexico and the northern parts South america. They got it all due to revolts.

I very often see the Papal States gobble the whole italian peninsula, and Helvetia or other german minors get to 6-8 provinces strong. At least, when they're not eaten themselves by others in the 50-100 first years. :D

There are 2 unusual AI nations in my current game as Russia.
Ak Koyunlu owns Asia Minor (Ottomans exist only in Europe), annxed all the "Turkish" minors plus Kara Koyunlu, and has stripped provinces from the Mamelukes. There is no Kaliphate, Persia has 2 provinces. They have also taken the bulk of the old Timurid empire, and even beat up on the Uzbeks.

Venice has conquered all of Italy - including the Pope, except for Genoa and Siena. I've never seen that before.

In my current game (as Denmark) France and Spain are both annexed by Navara (Most of their territories revolted and joined the small pyhrenian (spl?) country). Well france still have Paris and one island in the spanish (Now Navarian) main left, but they are no longer a threat to Navara. Navara has ALL the Spanish colonies... I'll see if I can post some screenies if you want...

Austria and Navare have taken most of Italy (only Rome, Venetia and Genoa left) and divided it quite fair :p Which means Milano to Austria and the rest to Navara.

BTW. The year is 1672

This is by far the most bizarre game of EUII I've ever had... I've just started playing it again after a 6 month break.
