I started playing as John Komnenos in 1120. My vassals had a very high opinion of me but when I switched to Manuel their opinion went down.

As John, I instituted high crown authority so that probably had something to do with it.

What are some other ways that I can raise opinion?

This is what I can think of so far
-giving money
-giving honorary titles
-giving out land titles
-sending wards to be educated
-giving council positions
-holding grand tournaments??
-lowering feudal levies law
-lower feudal taxation law

I think I also read somewhere in another post that the longer you reign the higher their opinion is. Not sure about that though

- Free Investure under papal laws
- Holding feasts
- Having high State Diplomacy which is the sum of your, your spouse's and your councilors diplomacy
- Sending your diplomat to increase relations with them
- The longer you reign the more your Short reign debuff decays / Long reign buff grows
- Arranging marriages with their family members
- Fullfilling their ambitions
- Declaring war for their titles
- Assisting them in plots

EDIT: There are several traits that help too. I don't know them all in my head, but some that I prefer are

- Just
- Attractive (only works on opposite gender vassals)
- Temperate
- Genius
- Diligent
- Kind
- Gregarious
- Charitable

It also works on homosexuals of your gender.
That's interesting. I guess the question now is how do I make all my male vassals homo...

Sharing traits also increase your relations; especially if you are both crusaders.

- Brave will increase relations.
- Transferring vassals that are at least count increases relations I think, sharing vassals they want will increase relations, that I am sure (and it will remove the malus for holding one of their de jure vassal).
- Ending a plot that you made where they are co-conspirator will decrease relations.
- Asking them to stop following a plot that target you or a member of your dynasty will increase their relations by around 50 if they are a follower of the plot (by nothing if they lead the plot).
- Releasing a prisonner will give you +10 relations with all vassals.
- Making a banquet and the grand tournament.

Some other things that are event specific. Sometimes events in decisions (grand hunt, summer fair) can increase relations of your vassal; but usually more of bishops or mayors.

Great responses everyone

didn't know that about diplomacy. I'll have to remember that in my next play through. Also, how can I assist them in their plots. As Byzantine emperor, so far I have only had the option to end plots or invite them to mine

I should actually have guessed that.
That is awesome though. Can anyone verify if you can get the lover effect with someone if you are both homosexeual and of the same gender?

I have never seen that. Perhaps it is because the lover modifier is linked to the affair event?
